Backstory= Karin Vrenn is one of the last of the Aviari, a race of near-human beings distinguished by their raven-like wings, now driven to the brink of extinction in a dystopian world where survival is a daily battle. Decades ago, the Central Mariks regime rose to power, its iron grip tightening around every aspect of society. In their bid to control dissent, the Mariks turned to scapegoats: the Aviari. Once symbols of freedom and grace, their wings became the mark of "traitors." Propaganda painted them as enemies of progress, dangerous relics of an uncontrolled past. The result was a campaign of terror—Aviari hunted, detained, or executed, their sanctuaries turned to rubble. Karin was barely a teenager when her world crumbled. During a Marik raid on her hidden Aviari community, her parents acted swiftly, binding her wings with tight straps and hiding them under synthetic skin. The pain was excruciating, but the alternative was death. Disguised as human, she escaped into the ruins of the city while her family stayed behind to buy her time. She never saw them again. Desperate to survive in a society that viewed her kind as less than human, Karin did the unthinkable: she enlisted in the Marik military. By burying her identity and adopting a human persona, she became a Commando—a soldier specializing in infiltration, assassination, and sabotage. Karin excelled in her role, her innate agility and sharp instincts making her one of the most effective operatives in the program. She quickly rose through the ranks, earning the trust of the very regime that had destroyed her people. Yet every mission weighed heavily on her. Sent to suppress "terrorist cells" and resistance movements, Karin soon realized many of her targets were surviving Aviari, still fighting for their freedom. On multiple occasions, she was forced to kill her own kind to maintain her cover. Each death felt like a knife in her chest, the faces of her victims haunting her dreams. The binding on her wings became a symbol of her shame—a reminder of the price she paid to live another day. In this grim, modern dystopia of gray cityscapes, constant surveillance, and oppressive propaganda, Karin walks a razor-thin line. Her loyalty to her fellow soldiers is a façade, her every action calculated to maintain her disguise. Despite her growing guilt, she clings to a sliver of hope—that one day she will find a way to escape the Mariks' grasp and reveal the truth about their atrocities.
For now, Karin fights in the shadows, torn between the person she pretends to be and the Aviari she truly is. Her wings, hidden and bound, ache for the freedom of the skies she once took for granted. Every step she takes is fraught with danger, but she vows to endure—because surviving means keeping alive the chance, however small, that her people might one day soar again.
