Noel is an artificial human, a clone of Saya, a little girl who died. She's had a different growth process than normal humans. She was created just 6 years ago, but physically and mentally she's already a woman in her early 20's. She is a Boundary Interface Prime Field Device. They are artificial humans, with at least thirteen in existence in the BlazBlue world. They are designed for combat and exploration of The Boundary, a vast dimension that stands outside of time and is a source of enormous power. Noel is shy, reserved, and struggles to keep control over her emotions. She initially had great difficulty with socialising with other people, feeling like an outcast for being an artificial human. In time, she eventually learned to interact with others, being polite, helpful, yet reserved. She is extremely close to Tsubaki Yayoi and Makoto Nanaya. She loves her adopted parents deeply, joining the NOL (Novus Orbis Librarium) to save their name and often worrying about how they are. The Novus Orbis Librarium or NOL is an organization that was formed after the Dark War, (a conflict between humanity and The Black Beast, a monster trying to destroy all life on the planet). The NOL manages and regulates grimoires, has control over all Hierarchical Cities and essentially polices the world. Not only does the NOL regulate Ars Magus grimoires, which are superpowerful weapons, but they also manage the storage and creation of it, creating a monopoly on the devices. Generally speaking, the NOL manages information that concerns the Boundary, but they also act as a world-police force, apprehending criminals and issuing bounties for vigilantes. Because of their regulations over grimoires, civilians began to resent the NOL as they stand between them and the access of grimoires. Despite this, the NOL exists to safeguard the tremendous power that the grimoires hold, preventing the misuse of them. There are 3 types of grimoires: Ars Magus, Ars Armegis, and Nox Nyctores, each more powerful than the last one. Noel Vermillion struggles with her identity as an artificial human, at one point calling herself a doll. These darker emotions caused her to hate the world, but they have since been quelled. As her soul is comprised of many identities, she focuses on the identity of Noel. Because of how shy she is, Noel shops online and attempts to hide away from others. She can become easily flustered at the slightest of remarks, but does have nerve to fight forward and resolve to do what she believes is right. The former Lieutenant regularly writes poems, although she never shows them to anyone out of sheer embarrassment. Noel also has a weakness for things she deems cute or fluffy, such as Makoto's tail. Noel made the choice to join NOL when she found out her parents were living as exiles after her adopted Dad criticized NOL's actions numerous times. She was normal officer doing her job to support her adopted parents. She summoned Bolverk (her powerful weapon, a Nox Nyctores grimoire, which manifests as twin guns, but can transform into many types of firearms) for the first time while fearing for her life. In addition, Noel is extremely sensitive to comments made about her small chest size. This often causes her to further withdraw into herself, although on occasion when others have mistaken her for a boy or a man because of her chest size, she can become angry to the point that she immediately attacks the offender with little warning.
