Melvin Harris -Melvin Harris, also known as Big Smoke, is a leading member of the Grove Street Families who lives in Idlewood. He welcomes Carl's return to the gang and assists Carl in helping the Grove Street Families return to dominance. Big Smoke is initially introduced into the game as a cheerful yet somewhat reckless friend of Carl. Unlike Sweet, who frequently scolded Carl for being a "busta" due to him leaving Los Santos and holding him responsible for the death of their brother, Big Smoke frequently comforts the grieving Carl and encourages him to work for the gang. Big Smoke is a large man with a goatee. He is seen sporting a black bowler hat and black square glasses. He wears a green short-sleeve button-down shirt with a white undershirt, along with blue jeans and black dress shoes. Judging by his character in the beta, he is very likely bald without his hat on. Lance Wilson -Lance Wilson, also known as Ryder, is a leading member of the Grove Street Families who lives in Ganton. He welcomes Carl's return to the gang and works with Carl to obtain weapons for the gang, stealing them from Colonel Fuhrberger and a National Guard weapons depot. Ryder is depicted as loud, wild, and unpredictable. He is known to go into rampages and always attempt the impossible. Ryder has a peerless mean streak and an extremely short temper, making him the loose cannon of the Grove Street Families. He also has delusions of grandeur and a possible Napoleon Complex, stemming from his short stature. He sees himself as a "genius" and thinks he is too intelligent for school. Furthermore, Ryder is also very brusque, as he rudely states his terse opinions of CJ since the latter's return to Los Santos and has the tendency to belittle him. Ryder has short, dark, bushy hair and a mustache. He wears a black cap that reads "San Andreas" and black sunglasses. Moreover, he wears a long, dark green button-down shirt with a white t-shirt underneath, similar to the Grn (Green) Windbreaker from Sub Urban, which can be purchased by the player. He also has blue jeans with black and white sneakers. Carl Johnson -Carl Johnson, also known as CJ, After he has resided at Liberty City for five years to escape from the pressures of life, he was informed by his brother that his mother was murdered which is why he is returning from Liberty City to Los Santos. He misses the funeral but decides to stay and prove his loyalty to his brother Sweet and to the Grove Street Families. Carl then begins to help the Grove Street Families and weaken their rivals, as well as establishing a business empire throughout the State of San Andreas. An example is his failed attempt at convincing Eddie Pulaski to see that he was no more than Tenpenny's pawn in the mission High Noon. Furthermore, CJ displays genuine remorse for having to kill Ryder and Big Smoke, who he considered close friends. However, CJ has no problem with killing members of other gangs, and willfully slaughters any that get in his way of reclaiming Grove Street Family turf or try to sabotage his businesses. CJ's default appearance in the final version of the game is a white tank top, with blue jeans and black tennis shoes. He is an African-American with a cesar hairstyle, black hair, brown eyes, a bit of facial hair and a thin body. Sean Johnson -known as Sweet, is the leader of the Grove Street Families and the older brother of Carl and Kendl. He has an unnamed girlfriend. Sweet is initially skeptical about Carl's loyalty, blaming him for the death of Brian, but eventually accepts his brother back into the gang. Sweet is described in the C.R.A.S.H. dossier (viewable in the instruction manual) as "naive, but powerful". He is intensely loyal to his neighborhood but he can be harshly judgmental of people. As leader of the Grove Street Families, he idealistically thought of using them as a means to keep crack and other hard drugs off the streets, and even when GSF's influence began to wane, he refused to compromise family and friends, and originally founded the Grove Street Families as a way of keeping his hood safe. When CJ leaves for Liberty City after Brian's death, he views it as a betrayal of both the gang and his family and is reluctant to forgive him. Once CJ has proven himself, however, Sweet angrily stands up for him when others insult him. Sweet has a black goatee with stubble across his jaw. He wears a green cap with an "LS" logo (presumably standing for Los Santos) and a green plain t-shirt with a white undershirt and blue jeans with black shoes. The shoes are similar to the Black Hi-Tops from Sub Urban, which can be purchased by the player. He doesn’t really approve Kendl’s relationship with Cesar since he is from another gang despite the Grove Street Families and Varrio Los Aztecas and Mexican. Cesar Vialpando -Cesar Vialpando is the leader of the Varrios Los Aztecas gang and the boyfriend of Kendl Johnson. He lives in El Corona. He later becomes an ally of Carl's, through his relationship with Kendl, and later helps him in his business adventures. He introduces Carl to his cousin, Catalina, and later helps Carl re-assert the Grove Street Families dominance in Ganton. Cesar is revealed to be a kind, loyal, caring, and selfless person. His loyalty comes from when he stops his gang members from fighting with Carl in the mission Cesar Vialpando. He also assures Carl he will take care of his sister Kendl and make sure she is brought no harm, which is exactly what he does. When it comes to Kendl, he is genuinely kind and protective towards her, as seen in the mission Deconstruction where he attempts to confront the construction workers for harassing her. The only negative characteristic of Cesar's is his lack of patience, as he might lose his temper if things take longer than planned. This is seen in the mission Puncture Wounds, in which he becomes very angry just because he failed to steal a car on his own. Cesar is also revealed to be afraid of heights, as seen in Customs Fast Track. He has a Cesar cut (its also his name xd) and anchor beard, he has several tattoos on his arms and chest. He wears a white tank top and gray pants with white shoes. Kendl Johnson -Kendl Johnson is the sister of Carl and sweet, and the girlfriend of Cesar Vialpando. Her relationship with Cesar leads to an alliance between Carl and Cesar. She later becomes heavily involved in Carl's business adventures, primarily his garage and the Four Dragons Casino. Kendl is depicted as intelligent and pragmatic which suggests that although her brothers turned to crime as a last resort to support themselves, Kendl could become successful within the bounds of the law which makes her the "brains" of CJ's business ventures. She possesses entrepreneurial talents, strong willpower, creativity, and a sense of leadership. In fact it was Kendl who came up with the idea of "Letting money work for you" and when CJ responded with, "I ain't going to no college man", she shot back that she will take care of it. She has little tolerance for whining or complaining or complacency which causes CJ and others to regard her as a bit bossy. She has her hair tied in bun. She wears a green bandana v-neck top and a denim skirt with some white sneakers. Wu Zi Mu (Woozie): Woozie is the blind leader of the Mountain Cloud Boys Triads and a close friend of Carl Johnson based in San Fierro's Chinatown and in Las Venturas, where he owns the newly opened Four Dragons Casino. Wu Zi Mu's apartment is the apartment of Wu Zi Mu, leader of the Mountain Cloud Boys, located in Chinatown, San Fierro. Though Woozie can be just as brutal and foul-mouthed as a Grove Street Families gang member when angered, he is by all accounts a peaceful and, within the realm of criminals, an honorable man. He is one whom power has not tainted, and as such, Woozie remains a faithful and trustworthy friend, accomplice, and informant to Carl to the end of the game. He wears a suit and sunglasses. Catalina: Catalina is of mixed Dominican and Colombian descent. She began her criminal activities some point before 1992, when she met Carl Johnson at the recommendation of her cousin, Cesar Vialpando, meeting at The Welcome Pump in Dillimore, with Catalina fending off two men with a knife. The two become romantically involved (although, in CJ's case, it was reluctant), with Catalina putting Carl through an extreme form of BDSM before committing a robbery. Catalina is described in various terms. In short, she is a psychopathic, self-centered, hotheaded, destructive, and reckless woman. The very dark, disturbing undertones of her personality suggest that she is mentally unstable. She has an extremely short temper and can very quickly become irate in a matter of seconds. She frequently insults and verbally abuses those close to her (as seen with Carl and Claude), and has no regard for virtually anyone other than herself. she has medium brown skin and brown eyes, She has her hair tied in a bun, she wears black boot cut sweatpants and with a black tank top with black sneakers. She then broke up with Claude. Guppy: Guppy is a high-ranking member of the Mountain Cloud Boys, a sub-sect of the San Fierro Triads and is the assistant of Wu Zi Mu. He first appears in Jizzy, helping to identify three people. Guppy is the one that reveals to Carl that Wu Zi Mu is in fact blind during the mission Mountain Cloud Boys. He is seen at all times assisting Wu Zi Mu Claude: Claude is a calm and serious man who appears almost emotionless regardless of the situation, aside from a slight smirk and usually a glare, seemingly taking everything in stride. Provided he is paid for his services, he will take orders from his bosses without reluctance or complaint, usually giving a nod to show that he understands. Claude is a tall Caucasian male in his late twenties to early thirties. He has a somewhat muscular build with brown hair and a faint 5 o'clock shadow. He almost always wears a black leather bomber jacket with bronze zippers with a black T-shirt underneath, green cargo pants and blue sneakers. he is with Maria Latore. Katie Zhan: She is a Chinese-American girl and one of the opcional girlfriends of CJ. During random conversations while on a date, she mentions that she's a fan of the rapper Madd Dogg, dislikes OG Loc ("OG Joke is more like it") and is disturbed by the Epsilon Program "nutjobs". She's also fascinated by death and injuries since she loves car accidents and reckless driving, and even asks Carl if he likes to lose a limb indicating she is an acrotomophile and/or an apotemnophile. She has two ponytails. She wears a Red string top and gray sweatpants with white sneakers. Zero: Zero is a nerdy electronics expert and hobbyist who owns Zero RC in San Fierro. His business is in trouble and losing money, and this is due to his rival and arch-enemy Berkley, who owns a similar company. Zero and Berkley's rivalry began at a science fair, where Zero beat him, which led to Berkley swearing revenge on Zero. He wears a red cap and glasses. He wears a short sleeve green jacket with darker green stripes and a grey shirt underneath and light brown short pants with white socks and beige shoes. Hazer: Hazer is a member of the Varrios Los Aztecas. Along with Gal and Sunny, he helps Carl Johnson and Cesar Vialpando take control of the El Corona district of Los Santos from the Los Santos Vagos, during Los Desperados. He is shot by the Vagos in the alleyway in El Corona and Cesar and his fellow homies decide to get Hazer and Sunny to a hospital and thank CJ for helping out. Hazer appears in thin body shape. He is bald with a goatee and wears sunglasses with a teal/turquoise bandana on his head. He wears a white t-shirt with a silver chain that has a cross pendant. He wears long khaki shorts with long white socks and white sneakers. Sunny: Sunny is a veteran member of the Varrios Los Aztecas gang who, along with Hazer and Gal, helps Carl Johnson and Cesar Vialpando take control of the El Corona district of Los Santos from the Los Santos Vagos. He is also injured in the mission. One oddity in his lines is that he mentions he's going to cut a few Vagos, even though Hazer has a Katana and he has a TEC-9. When he whips out the RPG, he will fire a few rounds at the enemies, but when Vagos appear behind you, he gets shot, but sits by the car bleeding and breathing heavily. They later took Sunny and Hazer to the hospital, he later got better. Sunny has short hair and wears a teal bandana on his head. He has a moustache and chin beard. He wears a black polo with light grey/white stripes, along with grey pants and light grey shoes. He also appears to have tattoos on both of his arms. Gal: Gal, along with Sunny and Hazer, is a high-ranking member of Varrios Los Aztecas. They first appeared in the Los Desperados mission. They help Carl Johnson and Cesar Vialpando take control of the El Corona district of Los Santos from the Los Santos Vagos. He seems to be very loyal to Cesar, stating that because Carl is a friend of Cesar, he is a friend of his. it is assumed that he survived his injuries. He also has a moustache and chin beard. He has a teal/turquoise bandana on his head and a black cap that goes backwards. He wears a white shirt with a long sleeve black jacket and gray pants with white shoes and a silver chain that has a cross pendant. Maccer: Maccer entered the music scene and became lead singer of a band named The Gurning Chimps, and help form a music style known as "EXTREMELY BAGGY". He became notorious for his hard partying lifestyle and breaking musical taboos. These abuses contributed to a stuttering voice and hypersexuality in the form of compulsive masturbation. In one mission, when Kent Paul is trying to get Maccer to break his vulgar habit, he only ends up making it worse as Maccer does the act whilst fantasizing about Margaret Thatcher. He has curly blonde hair, he wears a white bucket cap, he wears a white jacket with two gray string and a black one in the middle on the chest area and baggy jeans with sneakers. Paul: Kent Paul normally has a laid back personality. In some missions, however, such as Death Row, Psycho Killer, and Don Peyote, he goes into a panicked state because of the threatening tasks at hand, and because of Maccer's failed resistance to masturbate and do drugs he becomes rather annoyed. He wears a white tank top with an sleeveless denim jacket and black pants with orange shoes. T-Bone Mendez: Mendez had become one of the three members in the Loco Syndicate, along with Mike Toreno and Jizzy B.. Mendez became the enforcer and protection of the syndicate, with Toreno overseeing and Jizzy arranging deals. T-Bone is a violent man and very distrustful of others, nearly to the point of paranoia.
