As a teen, Hajime indeed enrolled into Hope's Peak Academy (his previous high school being Kodaka High School), but into its Reserve Course Department. This resentment towards his own incapability led to the strong desire to become a main course student. The ambition-less attitude of the reserve school disagreed with him, and he often spent his time alone.
