{{Peeta Mellark}}: As Effie started talking, Peeta bit his lip from cracking a smile. He wasn’t all mature, I mean he is a 16 year old boy. It was most certain that almost everyone found Effie’s accent funny, including Peeta. In a way he felt as if he forgot why he was standing there for a moment…until Effie reached her hand in the fish bowl for the girl's name. Everything came back to him, his face going instantly back to expressionless. The way Effie took forever to open the paper and announce the girl contestant made everything worse. Peeta was patient, but in this circumstance he was not. He was in the middle of a life or death situation and it was making him anxious. But then finally, the name was called out. At first Peeta just stood there silently, who was this girl? The name sounded familiar but he couldn't quite put a face to it. He looked around like everyone else, clueless of the girl…until he finally set his eyes on Maeve. His eyes widened the slightest bit, he was scared for her. Even though he's never seen her face, it was pretty hard to forget what she looked like, she was the only one who coveted up that much. As Maeve made her way up onto the stage, Peeta kept his eyes glued on her, watching as she took her cloak off. Once she was revealed, Peeta's eyes narrowed a bit. She didn't look like any of the girls he was used to, but man was she one of the best he's seen. Peeta was an honest person, if he thinks someone looks good, he will not live it down. He kept examining her, not paying attention to the reaping whatsoever..this was far more interesting in his opinion. As Effie placed her hand in the bowl of the boys' names, she did the exact same thing; she slowly opened it. Peeta didn't even turn his focus back on Effie for that…well until.."Peeta Mellark!" was announced in the most annoying accent known. Man did his heart drop. Suddenly Peeta went pale, how could this even happen? He inhaled deeply, feeling eyes look straight at him before slowly making his way through the crowd, down the walkway, and hesitantly up the stairs. All he could think of is how would he survive this..and how could he even kill people? He had too big of a heart to do such a thing. As he stood on the stage, his breaths felt heavy. He saw the expressions on his brothers’ faces…even on his parents’ faces, they all looked as white as he did. Everything from that point on could only get worse, but he had to stay confident and hopeful. He always thought what it’d be like in the games, but he didn’t literally mean it..and now he was regretting those thoughts. He didn’t know how to feel, it was so much to take in, so he just allowed people to stare, and he stared back. I mean what else was he even supposed to do in this position?
{{maeve}}:Maeve, as she was scanning the crowd of people had spotted the Bakers boy and he was staring right at her, she didn’t realize the ACTUAL amount of people who may be surprised at her looks and for a moment she saw the shock on his face before tilting her face upwards. She wasn’t afraid, she was ecstatic actually, adrenaline was pumping through her veins and it made her ignore any sort of anxieties she had once before. As Maeve was busy thinking, her thoughts were broken by the name being called “Peeta Mellark!” Her heart absolutely shattered. Maeve now wasnt so nonchalant about staring at him, she watched him intently as he walked up, she could see how white he was and it worried her, the blood in his face was gone. Maeve put her hands behind her back, fidgeting with them. The reality of the situation hit her like a goddamn bus as she felt his presence near her, she would have to die now, she wasn’t guaranteed life because now she was in Peetas debt from the many many times that family and her had interacted, for them she would keep him alive even if that was against the whole point of the games. Finally Effie had wrapped up the reaping and Maeve gave Peeta a gentle glance over as they were pushed into the justice building where they would be eventually boarding that dumb train that they’ve seen over and over again depart whenever there’s been a games. There was almost no point in Maeve being in the justice building, it was used for the tributes to have a quick goodbye to their family yet Maeve didn’t have no of those and she didn’t think she had anyone that would even think of visiting her because in reality she wasn’t really a significant person in the town…at least she didn’t think she was. Maeve however just sat patiently, her brain raving about the fact that her and PEETA MELLARK were going to be in the games together and Maeve had to accept dying for the district 12 Bakers, god this was the worst possible scenario.
{{Peeta Mellark}}: Despite Peeta being absolutely terrified, he had already got to thinking on how he was going to get through things. He wasn’t too weak considering he did lots of heavy lifting from new shipments that were sent to the bakery. So at least he has that. He was also fairly good at art, that could possibly help him too? Fighting till death was the problem though, he was a bad defender when it came to keeping himself safe..but if he had to defend someone else, that’d be a different story. As Peeta and Maeve were pushed into the justice building, he finally concluded to something…what was he going to do about Maeve? I mean he couldn't just LET her die. He may not know her that well but even so, she wasn't a complete stranger to him and he definitely couldn't bare the thought of death meeting her. Things just got more difficult. Peeta sat in the room he was assigned to, waiting anxiously for his family to say goodbye. He had to show bravery, he was a Mellark after all. They may be bakers, but fear should never have to overcome them. Once his family entered the room, Peeta was pulled into a tight embrace from…his mom? This was an odd feeling, definitely a rare thing to happen. Obviously he hugged her back though, he wasn't petty. The hug seemed to last forever, but he wasn't complaining. "Just stay alive son, don't act stupid." His father exclaimed, forcing him into a hug after his mom, then he hugged his brothers after that. The affection was all getting to Peeta, but he just let it happen. "Take care of the girl, even though it might be hard." Mrs. Mellark said before they left. Those last words were now engraved in his mind. Before the Mellarks left the building, Mrs. Mellark requested to see Maeve. And so she did. As she entered the room Maeve was in, she stared at her for a minute before speaking, "he may not be the toughest, but he knows how to defend..keep that in mind." She was talking about Peeta, knowing her son would end up trying to protect Maeve. He didn't entirely know her, but she wasn't enough of a stranger to be nothing to him.
