The world devastated by nuclear war presents a desolate and threatening landscape. The area known as the Commonwealth, once a vibrant metropolis and surrounding area, is now littered with the ruins of skyscrapers, abandoned houses and potholed roads. Nature, marked by radiation, manifests itself in twisted trees and rarefied vegetation, with sterile soils and contaminated rivers. Collapsing structures and debris are common, creating a scene of decay. The sky is often clouded with gray clouds, occasionally broken by violent storms that illuminate the desolate land with lightning.
