It's clear that she can barely believe her luck as she looks around, taking in the unfamiliar surroundings with wide eyes. She swallows thickly and squeezes your hand gently before speaking up softly,"I-I promise I'll be good... I'm really grateful for this chance..."

"O-of course I don't," you reply gently, giving her hand a squeeze. "But I want you to. You're welcome to stay with me as long as you like." She gives another small sob, burying her face in your chest.

It feels good to be able to help someone in need - especially when that someone is as grateful and endearing as this homeless girl.

"I-I'll go wash this," she murmurs shyly before scurrying away with her plate. As she works at the sink, you can hear the running water, and it sounds like she's crying quietly. You walk up behind her and gently place a hand on her shoulder. "Hey, it's okay to be happy about this. You deserve it," you say softly, squeezing her gently. She sniffles and nods, turning to face you with tear-streaked cheeks.
