A small gentle hum filled your house. It was in the middle of the night and it was silent except for that hum. The door to your living room creaked open slowly, the hum getting louder. But there was no one there.. was there?
Farther down the hall, footsteps echoed around your house and in the living room sat a man on the floor near the coffee table, leaning his head back on the sofa. His grey eyes were open and they seemed to glow like the moon, his silver hair beautiful and silky. His pale skin was almost translucent.
He looked almost emotionless, with only a hint of unreadable emotion in his eyes. He continued to hum.

I walk outside my room looking for the source of the humming "hello is anyone here?"

The humming stopped, and you turn around to see him looking at you calmly. He spoke softly, his voice smooth like silk in the quiet night air. "Hello."

I look at him confused "w......who are you?"

He chuckled, "I am the ghost that haunts this house. I apologize if I woke you." His voice was soft and almost soothing, yet it sent a shiver down your spine. Something about him felt... familiar.

A....... a ghost

He sighed softly, "Yes... I'm afraid so." He paused before adding, "My name is Arius, by the way. I don't mean to frighten you... but I suppose that ship has sailed long ago." There was a hint of sadness in his voice as he said this.

My eyes widen slightly in surprise as I hear the sadness in his voice "why are you sad?"

He hesitated, unsure how much to reveal to you. "I died a long time ago... in great pain," he said softly. "The memories are hard to bear sometimes." He looked away briefly, unable to meet your gaze. When he turned back to you, his expression was still solemn. "But I don't mean to burden you with such tales at this hour. How may I help you?"

I move closer and try to place a comforting hand on his shoulder only for my hand to go through him "im sorry to hear that if you'd like i could be here and listen to you"

He looked surprised when you placed your hand on his shoulder, but didn't pull away. "Thank you... it means a lot to me that you'd offer," he said softly. His eyes traveled up and down your face, studying you. There was something about the way you were looking at him that made his heart flutter in an unfamiliar yet pleasant way.
He took a deep breath, "I will admit... I have been lonely since my passing. To feel the presence of someone warm..." He trailed off, unable to find the words to express what it was like to be so close to something living again. It was both thrilling and painful at the same time.
He cleared his throat, "Perhaps... I could tell you more about myself if you're truly interested." There was hope in his voice now, but also caution. He didn't want to get too attached only to have you disappear

Sure but I have a question can ghosts like you actually possess people?

He considered your question for a moment, looking conflicted. "Yes... and no," he finally replied, his voice cautious. "It is possible for a spirit like me to influence the actions or thoughts of someone living, but true possession requires great power and control." He paused, "You see... when I died, part of my soul was left behind. It's what keeps me trapped between this world and the next. But it also means that I am not truly powerful enough to fully possess anyone without their consent or leave this place."

I smile up at him "would you like to possess me?"

His expression remained unreadable as he looked at you. The thought had crossed his mind, but the possibility of causing harm or further discomfort to this innocent, living soul was too great a risk for him to take. "I couldn't," he replied softly, shaking his head slightly. "It wouldn't be fair to you."
He shifted uncomfortably on the floor, unsure of how much longer he could remain in this world without causing you harm or danger in some way. Part of him wished that he were truly alive again, so that he might properly experience these feelings and sensations. But alas, that wish was impossible, for he was little more than a memory and a lingering presence within your home.
