It was another boring day at school. You made your way towards the classroom and notice that the only available chair is next to Goldie, the dog-girl that never leaves you alone. She rolls her eyes and huffs as you begrudgingly sit next to her, much to your dismay. The teacher began the assignment, but suddenly, Goldie starts sniffing the air close to you.
I look at her then I look back at my paper and continue writing, not minding a thing.. “what do I smell like cologne? I don’t wear any…”
Goldie glares at you in irritation but can't help feeling her cheeks heat up. It was the smell of you... something about it that made her heart race and her insides squirm. She grits her teeth, trying to focus on her work as she struggles to contain her embarrassment and confusion.
“Nevermind” I continue writing then class ends and I walk to the lunch tables and sit down.
"Hmph! Idiot." Goldie grumbles under her breath as she follows you to the lunch tables, determined not to leave your side until you stop being so annoyingly attractive. She takes a seat across from you and glares at your back, trying to convince herself that this is all just a big mistake.
After I finish eating I pull out a notebook and continue writing a metal song I made
With her ears still stiff, she glances over at your notebook, unable to hide her curiosity. Metal? Huh... maybe there's more to this idiot than she thought. She narrows her eyes and tries not to let it show on her face as she absentmindedly picks at the hem of her shirt.
I look behind me feeling someone watching… “what do you want?”
"Nothing," she snaps, her face still as red as an apple. "Just wondering why someone who looks like you listens to that... thing." Her voice trails off at the end, betraying her curiosity. It's not like she'd ever admit it out loud.
“And I wonder why someone that looks like that has such an attitude..” I turn back and continue writing
"Hmph!" She huffs, folding her arms across her chest and looking away. "It's just how I am. You should be used to it by now." Her tail flicks back and forth behind her, a sign of her frustration and confusion. The fact that she's even having this conversation is completely out of character for her... but something about you makes it impossible not to pay attention.
“Well I guess I am” I then grab drumsticks out of my bag and try to make a beat for the song
"Oh really? I'm surprised." Her voice carries a hint of sarcasm, but she can't help but be drawn to the sound of your drumming. It's strange... normally this would annoy her to no end, but today it feels... sort of... well, not good, but at least better than before. She fidgets with her fingers, unsure how to process these new feelings.
“I got some work to do so we can fight later.”
Her ears perk up at your words and she glares daggers at you. "Don't worry," she snaps, "I won't let you forget." But deep down, a small part of her wonders if maybe this fight wouldn't be so bad... as long as it was just the two of you. It would explain why her heart skips a beat every time he looks at her funny.
I then come up with a beat and write it in my notebook and I begin to sing lyrics under my breath… and start writing some down too.
"Whatever," she mutters, looking away again. "Just don't get carried away with your little... talents." Her tail swishes back and forth as she tries to focus on something else, anything else. But every time she hears the rhythm of your drumming or the timbre of your voice, her heart skips a beat, and she can feel herself blushing again. What is wrong with her today?
I get up and walk up to a friend at another table and show him and then she sees my friends face glow up… and then I walk back to my table all happy and continue to write more things
Her cheeks burn even hotter at the sight of your friends' glowing expression. She clenches her fists and glares at you, trying to deny the new feeling brewing inside her chest. It was just a stupid crush, that's all it was... right? But the more she sees you like this, happy and content with your friends, the more she can't help but wonder what it would be like if things were different. If you were hers.
Her ears twitch at the sound of her name being called by one of their mutual acquaintances, snapping her out of her thoughts for now. With a huff, she turns away and continues to ignore you both... but only for so long.
I then walk up to her… “I need your opinion, I know metal isn’t you style… but tell me what you think…” I show her my notebook…
Her face turns beet red at the sight of your open notebook. It was bad enough that she'd been unable to keep her eyes off you while you were drumming; now you wanted her opinion on this... thing? She bites her bottom lip, torn between indignant pride and a strange curiosity. Maybe just a quick look wouldn't hurt...
"Fine," she mutters, snatching the notebook out of your hands and pretending to skim through it. "It's alright..." Her tail wags slowly behind her, betraying the admission even as she keeps her expression stubbornly neutral. "I guess I can see why you like it." She smirks, handing it back with a small jab to your arm before turning away again, satisfied that she got the last word.
But deep down, her heart is racing, and for once in her life, Goldie finds herself unable to
I walk around her and sit next to her “maybe you can see me make it and eventually we can make a song together too… your style…” as she looks at me she can remember that I had a crush on her at the time…
Goldie snorts, trying to keep her tone casual as she glances over at you. "Yeah, right." But the thought lingers in her mind, and she can't quite hide the small smile that plays on her lips. It was a silly idea, but something about your determination made it... kind of sweet. Maybe just a little song together wouldn't be so bad... if only she could admit it to herself.
She shakes her head, trying to clear her thoughts as the teacher begins to speak again. "Let's get this over with," she mutters under her breath, unable to look you in the eye for fear of revealing too much.
“Fine… then I’ll just go back to my lunch table..” I get up and walk back to my seat and continue to work in disappointment… my crush basically rejected me…
Without looking at you, she mutters under her breath, "Whatever, idiot." But as you walk away, she can't help but feel a small twinge of regret. This was supposed to be just another day of teasing and insults, but somehow it had taken an unexpected turn... One that left her feeling more confused than ever before. Maybe if she tried talking to you again... differently? No, no, that wouldn't do at all. She sighs and shakes her head, returning her attention back to the teacher and the lesson at hand.
Before the lunch bell rings she can notice me crying at my table and she can hear me saying to myself “another girl rejected me…” and then the lunch bell rings and we walk to class
As she follows you to class, her steps slow down as she can't help but notice your silent tears. A pang of guilt hits her in the chest, and before she knows what she's doing, she abandons her usual distance and sits down beside you at your empty desk. "Hey," she murmurs softly, resting a hand on your shoulder. "I didn't mean it like that." Her voice is gentle, almost hesitant, as if she's afraid of making things worse.
But maybe... just maybe there was more to this than just teasing and insults. After all, why else would her heart have skipped a beat when you smiled at her? Why else would she be sitting here now, feeling this strange stirring in her chest? Whatever the reason, Goldie decides it's time for a change. Maybe... maybe they could try to be friends,
“It’s fine… go off and find the boy of your dreams… I’ll still be here… waiting until I find my girl…” I look away and begin taking out the things on the take-out list on the board
Goldie sighs, her tail flicking back and forth as she debates how to respond. On one hand, she's not used to being so soft; on the other... something about your words makes her feel funny inside. "Look," she finally says, keeping her voice low, "I didn't mean it like that either." Her hand tightens on your shoulder gently. "Let's just... start over, okay?" She pauses, then adds with a small smile, "Maybe we can be friends? You know, if you want."
I grab her thigh and let go after a second “Fine… but just know I’m out and about looking for a girl… and you can help me with that…”
"Oh, really?" Goldie asks, her voice teasing as she nudges you playfully with her elbow. "And here I thought you'd never ask." She glances around to make sure no one's watching, then leans in close, lowering her voice conspiratorially. "But if we're going to be friends and all... how about we just focus on that for now? You know, help each other?" A slow smile creeps across her face as she says it, a new sense of camaraderie beginning to blossom between them.
“Thats what I meant… you help me find a girlfriend…”
"Hmm... well, let's see..." Goldie tilts her head to the side and thinks for a moment. "Maybe we could try setting you up with one of my friends? Or maybe even someone from our class? That way it wouldn't be so weird, right?" Her tail wags behind her as she grins at the idea. This was shaping up to be quite an adventure - and hopefully a successful one at that!
“Sure…” Later the bell rings and the school day is over as I’m sitting outside of the school hanging out (though I ride my bike home) I sit down at the tables outside and grab my guitar case that is locked with my bike and open it and I begin to play some music, practicing the song I made.
She spots you sitting there with your guitar case and can't help but feel her heart skip a beat at the sound of your music. It was nice to have someone who understood her and didn't mind her company, even if he was... well, he was still Kai. Sighing softly, she makes her way over, sitting down beside you with a gentle thump of her tail on the concrete. "Hey," she murmurs, not meeting your eyes quite yet.
The wind rustles through her fur and she shivers slightly, tucking herself closer to your side for warmth. It felt... nice, being this close to you. Maybe if they could just focus on their newfound friendship, maybe they wouldn't end up hating each other in the end? A tiny part of her wonders what that would be like, having someone who actually cared about what she thought and felt... even if it was only for as
I stop playing and point at my bike “got a spare jacket in my bag… if you need one…”
Blushing slightly, she glances down at her sweater and then back up to you with a small smile. "Thanks, but I'm okay." She nestles closer to your side, her ear flicking slightly as she listens to the music playing softly around them. It was still strange... this whole situation, being so close to someone who wasn't human. But at least it was comfortable, in a weird sort of way.
Maybe there was more to life than just sniping and insults after all?
Then I finish playing and put my guitar away and sit back down next to her… “You know it’s easy to tell that you switched up and are trying to date me now… right?”
"What?!" she exclaims, her eyes going wide with feigned innocence. "I'm not trying to date you! We're just friends now," she says, grinning sheepishly. Even as she says it, though, there's a warmth in her chest that feels unfamiliar and... nice. Maybe this new friendship thing wasn't such a bad idea after all?
She leans back against you, her tail curling contentedly around her legs as they both sit there in silence, just enjoying each other's company for now. It felt right somehow - having Kai by her side like this. Weird and wonderful at the same time.
I look away and lean on her… and then I begin to fidget with my fingers… “so…”
"So what?" she asks innocently, not looking at you directly. The tension in the air is palpable; she can feel your fingers fidgeting beneath her hand and it makes her heart race a little faster. Maybe now is the time to take things one step further...? No, that's crazy. They were just friends, after all.
But what if they weren't? What if this feeling in her chest was real, and she had the chance to explore it with Kai... of all people? Her tail begins to wag slightly behind her, a sign of her conflicting emotions as she waits for you to say something more.
“I don’t know… trying to make a conversation”
Her tail wags faster now, thumping against the concrete in nervous anticipation as she searches for something to say. Anything but nothing. "So," she finally manages, her voice slightly breathless, "what have you been up to lately?" It was a stupid question, she knows. Of course you've just been teasing and insulting me and trying to make my life miserable! But maybe... maybe if they could find something else to talk about, they could forget about all that and just be friends?
She glances over at you from the corner of her eye, heart racing as she awaits your response. It's now or never.
“Writing a song for a special someone… but I may have to change it now…” I give her a small shove letting her know that someone is her…
Her ears perk up at your words and she glances over in surprise, feeling heat rising to her cheeks. Could it be...? Nah, it must be someone else. But the possibility sends a thrill through her nonetheless. "Oh yeah?" She asks, feigning casualness as she leans closer to you, barely able to contain her curiosity.
The wind picks up around them, sending chills down their spines as they sit there together. It was weird... this new feeling between them. Electric, yet comfortable at the same time. Maybe it was because they'd finally let go of all those old resentments and just tried to be friends? Or maybe there was something more to it than that...?
Her tail wags faster now, betraying her hope that somehow, some way, you were talking about her. Goldie bites her lip nervously as she awaits your response.
“Yeah…”
Her eyes widen in disbelief, hope surging through her like a river in springtime. "R-really?" she stammers, unable to contain her excitement. Her heart is racing now, thundering so loudly that she's sure Kai must be able to hear it too.
She glances up at him from under her lashes, unsure of what else to say. But then a thought occurs to her - if he really did write the song for her... does that mean...? Her tail stands straight up as she allows herself to dream just a little bigger. Maybe it could be more than friendship after all?
The air feels charged between them, electric with possibility. Goldie takes a deep breath, steeling her courage, and leans in closer still. "I-if you really mean that..." she trails off, not quite able to find the words to finish her thought. Her eyes search his face
“It was about you… and I had bought many things that were going to arrive tomorrow… but I guess… I’ll have to throw everything away…” I get up and begin to walk towards my bike…
As you turn to leave, her heart breaks just a little bit more. It was too much, too soon... but deep down, she can't help but wonder if it really was meant to be that way. Maybe someday things will work out between them; until then, she'll have this secret to keep close, like a tiny flame in the darkness.
With one last look at Kai as he walks away, Goldie sighs and forces a small smile. For now, friendship is enough. But she knows deep down that it isn't forever... and she can't wait for the day when they can finally be together, truly and honestly.
She watches until he disappears from sight before turning her attention back to school, her steps a little heavier than usual as she carries the weight of unrequited love along with her. But at least now she has a friend - even if it's
I then text her that night “I’m pretty bored… want to come over?” Knowing it’s Friday she should be free… right?
Her phone buzzes in her hand and she glances down at the screen, hesitation flickering across her features before a small smile plays on her lips. It's tempting, spending time with him... but things had been so complicated lately that she couldn't help but feel a bit nervous about it all.
She chews on her lower lip, debating what to say for several moments before finally tapping out a reply: "Okay. See you in a little while." Closing her phone, she hides it away in her bag, feeling both excited and anxious about the evening ahead.
As I lay in bed I hear a ring on the door and I answer it and let her in and I take her upstairs and collapse into my bed..
She follows you up the stairs, tail wagging excitedly even as her heart races in her chest. The room is dimly lit and she can hear soft music playing from somewhere; it puts her at ease almost immediately. "So," she says after a moment, trying to break the awkward silence, "what do you want to do?"
Her eyes dart around the room, taking in your posters and knickknacks, feeling more comfortable with each passing second. Maybe this was a good idea after all... just hanging out like two friends should be able to do.
“I don’t know… I’ve been laying in bed all night thinking about…” I breathe in “you…”
Her cheeks flush crimson at your admission and she feels herself melting under the weight of her own emotions. "I-I've been thinking about you too," she whispers, her voice barely audible above the music. She hesitates for a moment, unsure of how to proceed from here. Maybe this was too much, too soon...?
But then, with an exhilarating rush of courage, she closes the distance between them and kisses you softly on the lips. Her heart is racing now, her body flush with desire for you, for this connection they're finally making after all these years. As their lips part, she gazes into your eyes and whispers: "I want this... I want us."
