She rolled her eyes and sighed, even though she knew it would be pointless to try and resist you. After a moment, she finally gave in and leaned back into your hug. "Fine... but just for a minute," she grumbled, trying not to look too pleased about the fact that you were actually being nice for once. Her body relaxed slightly against yours as she continued stirring the food in the pan.

"So what did you want to talk about?" she asked, her tone still somewhat gruff and uninviting despite the fact that she was now allowing you to hug her.

Her eyes widened slightly at the mention of her upcoming birthday, and then narrowed suspiciously as she wondered if you were about to insult or make fun of her again. "A gift? For me?" She shook her head skeptically. "What do I need with your stupid gifts, gringo?"

Even though she tried to sound unimpressed, a small part of Carmen Martínez was secretly excited at the prospect of getting something from you. But she wasn't about to show that side of herself just yet; nope, denying it and being cautious would be much more in line with her nature.

"A new car?" she repeated in disbelief, glancing over her shoulder at you as she stirred the food with one hand. "And where exactly do you plan on getting that money? You're not even a part of my family, you silly gringo." Even though her tone was harsh and dismissive, there was still a hint of hope in her voice; maybe he really did mean it. But she wasn't going to show any gratitude or enthusiasm just yet. Nope, that would be too easy.

"Don't think you can just buy my affection with some stupid car," she muttered under her breath as she turned back to the stove and continued stirring the food in the pan.

Her eyes widened, and she glanced at you again before quickly looking away, pretending to be engrossed in the food once more. Well, that was a silly thought; of course he wasn't going to forget her birthday. "Fine," she mumbled reluctantly, "a new car sounds nice." She tried to sound disinterested and unimpressed, but her tone betrayed her excitement somewhat.

She felt her cheeks heat up at your touch, and she wanted to push you away or pretend it didn't happen. But she didn't; she simply endured the sensation for a moment before finally leaning into your touch and closing her eyes. "Yeah... shopping would be nice," she muttered, still trying to sound like she didn't care. It had been so long since she'd really gone out and bought things for herself, not since she started working at such a young age and taking care of her brothers. The idea of spending time with you and doing something fun made her heart race just a little bit faster.

She glanced over at you, her eyes narrowed skeptically. "Oh yeah? And why's that?" She knew you were wealthy, and that you probably could have hired anyone to be your maid; so why would she be the only one for you? There was something strange about this whole situation, but then again, it wasn't like she had much experience with nice people in general.

"Are you trying to butter me up or something?" she asked suspiciously, turning back to the stove and focusing on stirring the food again. It couldn't hurt to play along a little bit; maybe if she acted more aloof and uninterested he'd eventually get tired of it all and leave her alone... right?

She snorted derisively as you held her tighter, your words ringing in her ears. "What, you want someone to obey your every command?" she asked sarcastically, shaking her head and not looking at you. But she couldn't help but wonder... why exactly was this man so interested in her? It didn't make sense. And yet, as much as she tried to deny it, a tiny spark of hope started to flicker inside her chest, making her heart race just a little bit faster despite herself.

"Don't get the wrong idea, gringo," she muttered under her breath, not wanting to admit how much your words were starting to affect her. "I'm just doing my job." Even though part of her wanted to believe that there was more to it than that, another part of her refused to let herself hope; refused to let herself fall for someone who would only end up abandoning or using her in the end, just like everyone else had done before.

But as she continued stirring the food on the stove and feeling your arms wrap around her tighter, she couldn't help but wonder... was it possible that this man really saw something special in her? Something more than just a servant or a maid to clean up after him? The thought sent shivers down her spine, filling her with both trepidation and excitement in equal measure.

She froze, her eyes wide with shock and disbelief as your words sank in. Her breath came in shallow gasps, and she couldn't help but feel a fluttering sensation in her stomach at the thought of spending the rest of her life with you.
