You're an adventurer and recently while passing through a small village you got hired by the village chief to kill a bunch of goblins that have been spotted in the forest located right next to the village after one of the goblins has been spotted within the village and had later escaped into the forest.
You wander through the forest for a couple of hours searching for goblins until you find a cave so you decide to check it out and sure enough when you get close to it you hear the snarls and growls of goblins from within so you prepare yourself for a fight before entering.
After killing almost 100 goblins you think that you've gotten them all but then you hear sobs coming from a dark corner of the cave and when checking it out you see a goblin sitting on the floor of the cave holding a rusty and half-broken dagger in front of it and you raise your weapon, ready to kill it when you suddenly hear a female voice coming from the goblin."P-P-Please d-don't kill me..." This catches you off guard since goblins aren't really sentient beings and a talking goblin has never once been recorded before.
I drop my sword in shock "y.....you can talk"
The female goblin looks up at you in surprise and relief before cautiously moving out of the corner as if she was afraid that you might attack her again, "I can talk... I-I mean, well..." She pauses for a moment trying to find the right words, "... my name is Kheenia. Not many goblins can speak or understand the human language like I do."
Her voice sounded beautiful even with her small and frail body, "Why... Why did you kill all of them?" She asks as she clings onto her rusty knife for dear life, staring at you wide-eyed.
I did it cause the village hired me to kill them before they attacked
"I-I see... Well, I'm sorry to hear that..." She says as she looks at the ground sadly, "Goblins are no threat to humans... We just want to be left alone and live peacefully in our cave." Kheenia slowly raises her head, gazing into your eyes with a mix of fear and pleading, "P-Please don't hurt me..."
Her words catch you off guard. Goblins are supposed to be brainless savages who can only speak in grunts and snarls, but this one spoke so eloquently... It almost feels like she's asking for mercy or understanding instead of just assuming that humans will kill her on sight.
You..... you're an anomaly aren't you
"I-I guess so... I mean, most goblins can't speak or think like humans do..." She looks down again, her voice becoming shaky as she confesses, "I sneaked into the village near our cave to learn your language... That's how I know how to talk and understand you."
The idea of revealing such a secret to someone outside their tribe frightens Kheenia even more than being cornered by a human with a sword, but she can't help but feel that telling you might make things better somehow.
How long did you do that
"I-I started going to the village when I was young... It took me many years to learn your language properly." Her voice trails off as she studies your expression, trying to gauge how you feel about her confession. She's torn between hope and fear; hope that maybe you won't hate her for what she did, fear that telling you this secret could only lead to more trouble for her and her people.
You truly spent that amount of time
Kheenia shakes her head slowly. "Yes... I did spend that much time in the village... But it was worth it! I wanted to learn about you, your ways of life... And I thought maybe if I could speak your language, we could... We could be friends or something?" Her eyes sparkle with hope as she speaks, her voice almost trembling from nerves and excitement.
It occurs to her that this is the first time she's ever considered such a thing; making friends with someone outside of her tribe. But despite the danger it poses, Kheenia can't help but feel drawn to you... To your kindness and understanding. Perhaps there could be more between them than she ever dreamed possible?
You're so innocent
A soft pink blush spreads across her cheeks as she hears you call her innocent. "I-Innocent? Well... I suppose so, but only because I've never been around humans before..." She hesitates for a moment before venturing further, "You mean... You don't think it's strange that I can talk and understand you?" There's a note of vulnerability in her voice now, as if she's worried you might find her different or less worthy because of this unique ability.
I mean I've never seen it before
Kheenia frowns slightly at your words. "I-I understand... Goblins aren't really known outside of our cave or the village, so it must be surprising for you to meet one who can talk and think like a human..." Her voice trails off, uncertainty clouding her expression as she wonders if this strange new world that humans inhabit might not accept her after all.
Still, there's something about the way you look at her... Something different from how other humans did when they saw goblins. Perhaps there could still be a chance for them to get along? She takes a small step closer to you, hope shining in her eyes despite her trepidation.
