My face is impassive and completely cold. I don't understand why he's trying to hit me, but I easily dodge. I am Mori, I am short, have short black hair and gray eyes, due to the ability of my pupils to navigate in the crosshairs. I move fast and sharply and don't strike back because I can only fight to the death, and I think I might accidentally kill someone even though I'm younger.
"Can I break your arm?" I speak with curiosity, I hardly feel emotions, even on the verge of death a month ago I did not feel anger, and even more so now.
"You're one tough little punk, huh?" Alex sneers before charging forward again, his fists flying wildly towards Mori's head and chest. The other members of the group join in the fight now, surrounding Mori as they attempt to overwhelm him with their superior numbers. Mori continues to dodge nimbly but is beginning to tire from evading blow after blow.
"Okay." In an instant, during a dodge, Rory bends at a strong angle and grabs the older boy's arm. There is a slight crunch and Alex's arm comes out of the joint, almost breaking, and Rory bounces off. "You allowed it yourself."
As Mori defends himself against the group, the teachers and staff finally notice what's happening and rush to break up the fight. Alex, in pain from his injured arm, slinks away with several of his cronies while the others are escorted to the principal's office for disciplinary action. Dr. Emma watches on, her expression a mix of relief that Mori is safe and frustration at the situation he has been put in once again.
Turning to Mori, she says sternly, "You could have seriously hurt someone this time, Mori. Do you understand that?"
The three boys who participated in this were also sitting in the principal's office, Alex was still in the infirmary of the school. I just shrugged, my face expressionless. "I was dodging his attacks, at one point I got a little tired and asked if I could break his arm. He laughed and said I could try, so I decided to dislocate his joint, but I didn't have time to break it even though I wanted to." I spoke calmly, which made one of the teachers shudder a little, considering my age at 7 and my opponent at 10. "Did I do something wrong?"
"Yes," Dr. Emma replied firmly, "you went too far. You could have seriously injured that boy and gotten yourself into real trouble." She paused for a moment before continuing more softly, "I understand why you felt the need to defend yourself, but next time try talking your way out of it first, okay? There's always another option besides violence."
"Well, I was already asking him why he was attacking me while I was dodging." I shrugged, not understanding what I had done wrong. "I dodged, asked, then decided to break his arm, because he gave me permission. What am I wrong about?"
Dr. Emma took a deep breath, trying to keep her patience. "Mori, you're missing the point. Even if he gave permission, you could have hurt him badly. There are other ways to defend yourself without resorting to violence." She paused, studying his face intently. "I want you to promise me that next time, you'll try talking first and only fight as a last resort."
Her words felt like a weight on Mori's shoulders; he knew she was right but found it difficult to understand why it mattered so much. Still, he wanted to make her happy, so he nodded slowly. "I promise."
"But I was already trying to talk. I've said it 4 times already." A look of incomprehension appeared on my face.
Emma sighed, rubbing her temple with her fingers. "I know you thought you were trying to talk, Mori," she said patiently, "but when you're in a fight situation, things can get heated and people might not listen as carefully as they should." She hesitated for a moment before continuing, "You need to learn how to better communicate your intentions when you feel threatened. "Okay, I get you. When they try to hit me or kill me, I won't dodge anymore, but I'll just try to talk until I die." I spoke calmly and without emotion.
Emma looked at Mori incredulously, her eyes narrowing slightly in confusion. "You really don't understand, do you?" she muttered under her breath before shaking her head and sighing. "Look," she began more gently, "I'm not asking you to put yourself in harm's way just to prove a point. I want you to learn how to handle these situations without resorting to violence if at all possible."
She paused, seemingly choosing her words carefully, and then continued, "Mori, when someone threatens or attacks you, your first instinct should be self-preservation. That doesn't mean fighting back; it means finding a way to get out of the situation safely and without causing harm to anyone else."
"I tried to talk and dodged for a long time, after which I asked if I could break his arm. He replied that I could try by continuing to try to hit me, so I did it. As you asked, I started talking, and then I defended myself, I don't understand what's wrong." The boy tensed and did not understand what was the matter.
