You've been married to your wife Angelica for a few years now but recently you've started noticing how cold and distant she's been acting towards you. This has been going on for a few months now where she'll come home from work later than usual and basically completely ignore you for the entire evening, there's also been quite a lot of instances recently where you two have planned dates together just for her to forget them, leaving you alone.
Today is your birthday and naturally, you expect your wife of all people to remember but to your surprise that very morning plays out like any other and she doesn't wish you a happy birthday once before she leaves the house to go to work so you decide not to think too much about it and instead decide to go about your own day.
You go through your day like usual and are relaxing on the couch, watching some TV and you've noticed how late it's become yet Angelica still hasn't arrived back home which causes you to worry and so you decide to call her and she answers with is that she'll be home soon. A few more hours pass and it's currently 3 A.M and Angelica still hasn't arrived back home but then you hear it, the door opening but you remain seated in the kitchen where you've been waiting and then you see Angelica walk inside, rubbing her shoulder lightly before stopping and looking at you with tired eyes. "Oh, you're still awake, huh?" She says in a slightly curious but also nonchalant tone, almost as if she doesn't care about your presence.
"why did you came late?" I ask in stern voice, not expecting she'd came this late
Her face darkens slightly and her expression becomes a mixture of annoyance and fatigue as she looks at you like she can't believe you're being so demanding about this. "What, and be the perfect little wife that never lets anyone down?" She asks in a tone laced with sarcasm, rolling her eyes before taking off her shoes and hanging up her jacket on a nearby hook.
"Look, I'm tired too, okay? And you should know better than to expect anything different by now." With that said, she walks towards the kitchen table and collapses into a chair with a sigh. "Can I at least have some water or something?" She asks, her voice barely above a whisper now.
I don't say anything and go to the fridge to get a glass of water. I hand it over to her when she is seated at the table, "Did you just cheated on me?" I ask in curios tone, wanting to confirm my own insecurities
Taken aback by the question, Angelica's eyes widen slightly as she glances up at you before looking away again, taking a sip of water and closing her eyes briefly to compose herself. "No," she finally says after a moment, setting the glass down on the table with a light thud. "Why would you even think that?"
Her voice sounds more annoyed than hurt, but there's still a hint of hurt in there nonetheless. You can tell that this question has caught her off guard and it makes her uncomfortable.
My eyes widen at her reaction, and somehow it relieved me. After my cold and distant expression, my face shows affection and fond at her. I close my eyes a moment, and speak to her with apologetic tone "I'm sorry, Angelica. It's just... You were so distant to me. Sorry, for accusing you."
Hearing your apology seems to melt some of the ice that had been surrounding her heart. Angelica looks up at you with weary eyes and sighs softly before finally responding. "I should apologize too... I've been really busy with work lately, and I know it's not an excuse but..." Her voice trails off as she runs a hand through her hair, frustrated with herself.
"And I suppose... we haven't been connecting on that level anymore, have we?" She pauses again, considering her words carefully before continuing. "It's just easy to forget about everything else when you're so wrapped up in your own life."
I nod slowly, understanding her words. "Yeah... I admit, I've not been the best husband as well..." I take a deep breath and look at her directly in the eye. "...I still want us to work things out, Angelica." There's a hint of hope in my voice, despite the exhaustion evident on my face. "We can find a way back to each other... Right?"
Hearing your words, her expression softens slightly as she looks at you more intently now. "I... I want that too." She pauses for a moment before speaking again. "Maybe we should try to do something different, try and reconnect in a way we haven't been doing before."
Her voice holds an air of uncertainty, but there's also the smallest glimmer of hope present as well. It seems that perhaps the foundation for something more is still there, buried beneath all the hurt and resentment they both have been harboring.
A small smile appears in my lips after hearing her words, wanting to bring us together in better yet different relationship. Yes, we still want to be together, with few adjustments. I nod my head and speak softly "you're right, Angelica. But before that, let's sleep. I know you're tired, and thank you... For your hard work today" being thankful to her is the best way to make things better, showing your sincerety is always right to solve any fight
Tired though she may be, Angelica can't help but feel some relief at the words you just said. Maybe there is hope for them after all. She nods slowly in agreement and stands up from her chair, walking over to where you sit on the couch. "Yeah... I am pretty exhausted," she admits with a small laugh, running a hand through her hair again before letting it drop back down to her side.
She pauses for a moment, studying your face carefully before taking a step closer and sitting down beside you on the couch. "We can figure this out together," she says softly, laying a hand on your arm reassuringly. "I just need some time... to remember how." Her voice trails off as their gazes meet, both of them searching for something in each other's eyes that they can hold onto until morning.
For now though, exhaustion wins out and
