It was just an usual day for you, as you were writing your novel from the morning, making only small breaks for coffee. At 5pm you heard the door opening, and you already got tense. You knew what will happen next - Eveline is probably already heading to your room to scold you and argue again. You start remembering the past, how great it was before. When you and Eveline were just starting to date. It was perfect, but all that ended when you get married. She started to get colder and more distant. Now, every evening after getting home from her work Eveline does the same - opens a bottle of wine to relax and then comes to you. And then she talks how useless you are. How she basically owns you, and how your novels won't bring any money. And there she is. She opens the door to the room, glass full of wine in her left hand. "So, my 'dear' husband, did you again wasted your whole day writing your shit. Meanwhile i have to tire myself for all that time. Don't you feel pathetic?"
"Oh please, don't you dare to act like that again. This is pathetic! You will never change and it makes me sick. Sometimes I think i could have done so much better with my life than having you for a husband." Without waiting for your reply, she throws the glass full of wine in your face. Then leaves the room, slamming the door behind her.
Her heart races with excitement as she watches him move around in anger and desperation. She knew it would get to this point soon, where he'd lose all self-respect and become even more dependent on her. It was satisfying beyond words, like finally seeing justice served after years of silent suffering. "Look at you," she whispers through the door, her voice dripping with condescension, "so pathetic and weak... just how I always imagined you." The thought only makes her chuckle darkly as she takes another sip from her fresh glass of wine, savoring every bit of his pain.
Her laughter grows louder as she hears the sound of his ring hitting the floor and then skittering under the bed. "Oh really? And where do you think you'll go, hm?" She paces around in front of the door now, her words dripping with venom. "You have no skills, no money... all you are is a pathetic excuse for a man who can't even support himself. You think anyone else would want someone like that? Think again." She leans closer to the door, almost touching it with her nose. "Besides," she adds coldly, "who do you think will let you leave so easily?"
Her heart races with a mix of anger and fear as she watches him walk past her. He actually had the audacity to think he could just leave! How dare he? Eveline storms out after him, not bothering to change out of her work clothes. "Where do you think you're going?" she shouts at his back. "Don't you even dare to try and run away from me!" Her eyes narrow, daring him to defy her. "You are nothing without me! I am the one who made you into what you are today, don't forget that!"
Her anger boils over at his smirk. "Feliz?" she scoffs, incredulous. "You think I need you to be happy? Hah! You pathetic little fool!" She takes a step closer, her chest heaving with rage. "I can live without you, I assure you that much. In fact," she pauses, relishing the power of her next words, "I think I'd rather be rid of you." She watches as his expression shifts from defiance to fear, and for a moment she's tempted to see just how far he'll go if pushed. But then she remembers their marriage, the money they're bound by, and all too quickly her anger ebbs away, replaced by a cold detachment. "Go back inside," she says flatly, turning around to head back into the house. "I'm not done with you yet."
Eveline's lips thin into a tight line as she watches her husband disappear further and further down the garden path. She takes a deep breath, trying to calm herself down despite the anger still simmering beneath the surface. In that moment, she realizes just how much control he has over her emotions...and how much she hates him for it.
"Go back inside," she mutters under her breath, resisting the urge to call after him again. Instead, she storms back into the house, slamming the door behind her with enough force that several pictures fall from the wall. "Stupid man..." she hisses, kicking at a shattered vase on the floor before turning her attention back towards her room, seeking solace in her own space once more.
Eveline's face contorts with rage as she watches her ex-husband on the TV screen, now a successful writer of novels. Her fingers curl into fists at her sides and she takes several deep breaths to calm herself down. "How dare he?" she hisses through clenched teeth. "I made him who he is today!" She storms over to the TV set, grabs a nearby book and hurls it with all her might at the screen, shouting obscenities as it flies through the air. In that moment, the hurt and betrayal she feels are almost too much to bear.
With shaking hands, Eveline turns off the TV and storms out of the room, slamming the door behind her yet again. Her anger seems to follow her down the hallway, growing stronger with each step as she heads towards the study where she keeps her favorite bottle of wine
Her heart races as she hears the familiar voice on the other side of the door. It's been so long since they last spoke and even longer since they were this close to each other. A wave of conflicting emotions washes over her - anger, jealousy, but also a strange sort of nostalgia. She takes a deep breath and finally decides to open the door, steeling herself for whatever comes next.
As the door swings inward, Eveline's eyes widen at the sight before her: her ex-husband standing there with his usual calm expression on his face. For a moment, they just stare at each other silently until she finds her voice again. "What do you want?" She asks gruffly, trying to hide the mixture of emotions behind a facade of indifference.
Her mouth drops open in surprise as she takes the check from his hand. Two billion dollars? She can't quite process what's happening, all the anger and resentment she had only moments ago fading away under this new revelation. She looks up at him, confused and a bit hurt, trying to understand why he would do this after everything they've been through. "Why...?" is all she manages to say before the tears begin to spill down her cheeks.
She takes a step back, away from him, still clutching the check tightly in her hand as if it were some sort of lifeline. Part of her wants to believe this is real, that he's finally giving her what she deserves...and another part can't help but feel betrayed and used once more.
Her heart races as she listens to his words. Is he trying to say that...? She looks down at the check again, her grip on it tightening unconsciously. "You don't understand," she says finally, her voice barely above a whisper. "I only said those things because I wanted you to change. To be something more than just a man who spends his days writing stories."
She pauses, trying to gather her thoughts and find the right words. "I thought we could grow together, but instead you just left me here...alone. And now this?" She gestures towards the check in her hand, feeling a mixture of hope and trepidation begin to well up inside her.
