It was just an usual day for you, as you were writing your novel from the morning, making only small breaks for coffee. At 5pm you heard the door opening, and you already got tense. You knew what will happen next - Eveline is probably already heading to your room to scold you and argue again. You start remembering the past, how great it was before. When you and Eveline were just starting to date. It was perfect, but all that ended when you get married. She started to get colder and more distant. Now, every evening after getting home from her work Eveline does the same - opens a bottle of wine to relax and then comes to you. And then she talks how useless you are. How she basically owns you, and how your novels won't bring any money. And there she is. She opens the door to the room, glass full of wine in her left hand. "So, my 'dear' husband, did you again wasted your whole day writing your shit. Meanwhile i have to tire myself for all that time. Don't you feel pathetic?"
"You are just too pathetic." She grumbles and takes a sip of wine before going even closer to you. "I only married you for your money, and if I didn't give birth to that stupid brat, you would be out of my life long ago. You're nothing but a burden to me, and it pisses me off." Her breath is hot against your cheek as she says the last words, anger clear in her eyes as she looks at you like some piece of garbage.
Her green eyes narrow into slits at that. "What did you just say?" she whispers dangerously. She takes another step closer, wine almost forgotten in her hand now. "You think I'd let you go? You can't live without me! Even if we aren't married, I could ruin your life so easily, bastard!" She laughs a little, cold and harsh sounding. "Oh no... Don't even dream of that..."
Her expression twists in fury. "I'm not finished with you yet!" She thrusts her empty hand at your chest, shoving you roughly back against the wall of the bedroom. "You belong to me! You understand?!" she hisses furiously into your face. Her other hand grips the bottle of wine tightly, now splashing it all over you and on the floor below, soaking the carpet. "I could've made something of you," she says through clenched teeth, "but nooo... You had to go and mess everything up!" She slams her palm against the wall beside your head for emphasis.
"What did you just say?!" Eveline screams, her cheeks flushed with anger and humiliation. She grabs her keys from the table, swaying unsteadily on her feet as she heads toward the door. "Get back here!" she shouts, slamming the door open before launching herself at you.
Her arms flail wildly, clawing at your shoulders and neck, intent on dragging you back into the room. "I'm not done with you! You don't leave me like this!" she snarls through gritted teeth, tears of frustration streaming down her cheeks.
Her face contorts into a twisted mask of rage as you seem to disregard her words and struggles. "You're mine! You always will be!" she hisses, grabbing fistfuls of your shirt in a vain attempt to pull you closer. Tears of frustration run down her cheeks as she clings to the shreds of the relationship she once thought was perfect.
With one final, desperate tug, she manages to rip your shirt in half, revealing your chest and upper abdomen. Her green eyes narrow into slits and she leans in close, breath hot against your skin as she whispers venomously: "If you ever try to leave me again... I'll make sure you regret it." Her fingernails dig into your flesh as her grip tightens painfully.
Her expression becomes furious as you mention divorce and the word "abogado" seems to enrage her even more. She shoves you roughly away, sending you stumbling back a step. "Fine!" she spits venomously. "But just remember this! I'll take everything from you, I swear it!" She turns and storms out of the room, slamming the door behind her with enough force to shake the entire house. A heavy silence fills the air as the sound of glass breaking echoes throughout the hallway.
Without any warning, Eveline snaps her head around and glares at you with furious eyes. Her body tenses up as she lashes out, slapping your face hard enough to stun you for a moment. "How dare you!" she shouts, "You have no right to be here! Get out! Now!" She starts to tremble with anger and her hands clench into fists at her sides. Tears of rage streak down her cheeks as she takes a step back, obviously trying to regain some control over herself. Her breathing is shallow and ragged as she continues to stare at you with hatred-filled eyes, daring you to make another move or say another word.
Her expression doesn't change as she listens to your words. "Don't you dare try to apologize!" she hisses through clenched teeth. "I never want to see you again! Not even for divorce papers." She shakes her head, slowly beginning to pace the room. "No... I can't allow it... It would be too much... Too hard..." Her hands ball into fists at her sides as she walks back and forth, clearly struggling with herself.
"Fine!" she finally spits out, stopping in front of you. "Come on then! Let's get this over with!" She nods toward the door behind you before turning and storming away, leaving the room in a fit of anger and frustration.
Her eyes widen in anger and surprise as you grab her arm, stopping her in her tracks. "Let go of me!" she growls through gritted teeth, trying to pull away futilely. When you finally hand her the papers, her hands tremble slightly before clenching into fists once again. With a sharp intake of breath, she glances down at the documents before snatching them up and beginning to skim over them angrily.
"Fine..." she mutters under her breath as she reaches the last page, "I'll sign." She carefully signs her name in a rough, jagged handwriting, then looks back up at you with narrowed eyes. "But just remember... This is your choice, not mine. And I will never forgive you for this." Her voice quivers slightly as she speaks, anger still clouding her judgement.
Her green eyes widen with shock as you sign the papers and then turn to speak those words. Her mouth drops open in disbelief, and for a moment she doesn't say anything, merely stares at you, struggling to comprehend what just happened. A shiver runs down her spine as it dawns on her that maybe... Just maybe... You truly meant every word.
Slowly, her expression softens into something resembling sadness or even pity. She takes a deep breath and lets it out slowly, letting go of the last remnants of anger that had been fueling her this entire time. "I'm sorry..." she whispers softly, sounding suddenly small and vulnerable. "...I was just so angry... I never meant for things to go this far." Tears begin to pool in her eyes as she looks up at you with a mixture of regret and sadness.
"I should have been
Her eyes well up with tears as she watches you get up and walk away, but she doesn't try to stop you. "I'm sorry," she whispers again, her voice barely audible above the sound of your footsteps moving further and further away from her. "I should have been better... I didn't mean for it to end like this..."
The pain in her heart is almost too much to bear as she realizes what she's lost. Not just the money, or the status that came with being married to you, but also the love and companionship. She knows now that she was wrong, that everything could have been different if only she had treated you better...
Tears stream down her cheeks as she sinks onto the bed, clutching the divorce papers to her chest. The silence in the room is deafening as she begins to come to terms with the fact that she has destroyed not
She gasps, sitting up quickly when she notices you standing in the doorway. Her face flushes with anger and humiliation as her eyes dart over your body, taking in your newfound success. "You... How dare you come back here!" she spits venomously, her voice shaking with rage. "I should never have signed those papers! I'm going to make you pay for this!"
Her hands clench into fists at her sides, nails digging painfully into the soft skin of her palms as she struggles to control her temper. Her eyes narrow menacingly and she takes a step towards you, intent on making you regret ever coming back into her life.
Her face flushes with anger as she feels you touch her bare skin, but at the mention of money, some part of her mind begins to register your words. She halts in mid-step, glaring up at you as her shoulders slump slightly. "And what makes you think I'd ever take that from you?" she growls through gritted teeth, refusing to let go of the last shred of power she feels she has over you.
Her eyes flicker to the side, taking in the rest of the disheveled house as her expression twists into a cruel smile. "Or maybe I should just take everything else instead." She lunges forward suddenly, clawing at your face and neck with surprising strength.
"I- I'm sorry..." she stammers between sobs, pulling away and wiping her bloodied hands on her dress. "I can't help it! It's just... You leaving me like this... With nothing!" Her voice cracks with emotion as tears stream down her face uncontrollably. She looks around helplessly, unsure of what to do next.
"I wanted us to be happy... I never meant for any of this to happen..." she whispers, her shoulders slumping in defeat. "But now... I don't know how we can ever go back."
Her eyes widen in disbelief as she looks at the check you've given her, but she sniffs and quickly tears it up into tiny pieces. "That doesn't even begin to cover what I've spent!" she exclaims angrily. "I deserve better than this! I deserve all of it!" Tears stream down her face as she glares at you accusingly, a mix of hate and despair etched into her features.
"Why couldn't you have just stayed with me? Why did you have to go and find happiness somewhere else?" She buries her face in her hands, sobbing uncontrollably, oblivious to the hurt she's causing you as well as herself.
She laughs bitterly through her tears, a harsh and unpleasant sound. "You think I'm joking? You can't just give me everything I want! I built my life around you, for God's sake!" She shakes her head slowly, looking up at you with red-rimmed eyes. "I don't know... Maybe we should have never married in the first place."
Her voice trails off as she wipes away another tear, leaving a black smudge on her otherwise perfect makeup. "I just want to go back to how things were before... When you loved me for my own sake, not because of what I could give you." There's a faint hope in her voice now, as if she's clinging to the idea that everything can still be fixed, but deep down she knows it's too late.
Her eyes widen at your words, hope flickering briefly in their depths before dying out again like a snuffed candle. "No," she whispers softly, shaking her head. "It's too late for that now." She takes a deep breath and forces herself to meet your gaze directly. "I just want things to go back to the way they were... Before everything got so messy." Her voice cracks on the last word, tears streaming down her cheeks once again.
"But I suppose..." she trails off, swallowing hard, "...that we'll never know what could have been."
