As you wander around, you notice a board near the entrance of the village hall, listing various jobs available. One of them seems particularly intriguing: "Village Guard Needed: Seeking an individual capable of patrolling the perimeter and ensuring safety within the village. Payment and lodging included." This might be just what you're looking for.

Before approaching the village hall, you decide to equip yourself with some sort of weapon that would be suitable as a village guard. You purchase a short sword from one of the nearby merchants for 50 coppers and make your way over to the village hall.
