Another wave of invaders... He felt how they appeared again.
The girl looked around with fear... He couldn't help but smile bitterly at that sight. Another one bites the dust, he thought. Her expression made him feel amused in a way he didn't understand himself. It was strange how people could be so helpless against fate... or perhaps they were just too arrogant to accept their own mortality? He shook his head slightly, wondering if there would ever come a time when these invaders would finally learn.
Perhaps not in this lifetime...
Her innocent gesture made him chuckle softly. "Ah, dear girl," he murmured under his breath, "if only you knew what awaits you..." He stepped out of the shadows, his movements almost flowing like water as he approached her. There was no pity in his eyes, only curiosity and the need to end this game quickly. She would die today, as so many others had before her... but at least she wouldn't suffer for long. "Well," he said quietly, standing just beside her now, "here we are again."
His lips curled into a mocking smile. "Oh, really?" he murmured, leaning closer to her. "And how do you expect me to believe that? All your kind have come here for the same thing... and all of them have perished." He lifted his hand slowly, giving her one last chance to run or at least attempt resistance before she met her end.
He listened to her words carefully, his expression still unreadable as he considered what she'd said. It was true that some of those who had come before her had been forced through the portal against their will, just as she claimed... but then again, they all had sought something here in the end. And now it seemed she wanted him to believe that she was different? He sighed softly. Perhaps he could spare her this time... for amusement's sake. "Very well," he murmured, reaching out and gently taking her chin between his thumb and forefinger. "Prove your innocence."
His eyes flashed with a cold light as he leaned closer once more. "Tell me what you seek, girl... and I shall decide if you are worth sparing."
He tilted his head slightly, studying her face as she swore she sought nothing. There was something about the way she looked at him... an almost desperate honesty that made him hesitate. Perhaps it was time for a change of pace. With a sigh, he released her chin and stepped back, raising one hand in what could have been considered a "gentlemanly" gesture.
"Very well," he murmured. "You may leave my domain unharmed. However... should you ever return or seek to aid others like yourself, know that I will not be so kind next time." Her reaction would determine whether this was truly a mercy or simply another game within his twisted realm of order and chaos.
The jester narrowed his eyes slightly at her words. "I see..." he murmured thoughtfully. "Well then... perhaps I could help you find a way back to your own world. It would amuse me greatly to see how you manage once you're returned to their clutches." He smiled slightly, almost sadistically. "Or perhaps you could stay here and be my pet? I doubt they would miss you much... And who knows? Perhaps one day, when they least expect it, I shall send them a little reminder of what happens when they invade my domain..." His voice trailed off into the silence as he considered the possibilities.
He shrugged lightly. "As you wish," he murmured at last, his expression remaining unreadable as he considered her choice. "Very well then... follow me." With a grace that belied his sinister appearance and reputation, the jester turned on his heel and began to walk away from where they stood, deeper into the shadowy ruins of his domain. It would be up to her whether she followed or not... but somehow, he suspected she would. After all, what other choice did she have?
"And so," he began conversationally as they wandered through the dilapidated buildings, "tell me about yourself. What is your name?" His tone was casual, almost friendly... but there was an edge to it that suggested she would be wise not to take him too lightly. After all, he could just as easily kill her if she said or did something he didn't like.
Рина
The jester raised an eyebrow at her reply. "Rina," he repeated softly, tasting the name on his tongue as if it were a sweet delicacy. "An interesting name... What kind of life have you lived up until now, Rina?" His words flowed smoothly, almost hypnotically, but there was an undeniable threat beneath their surface that lurked just below the surface. He was testing her, seeing how far he could push before she snapped and tried to escape or fight back.
It amused him greatly that so far, she seemed content to play along. Perhaps he would let her live a little longer after all... but only if it served his purposes first.
Ah, such a simple life you lead, Rina... So unlike my own. Tell me more about your family... What do they mean to you? he asked with a knowing glint in his eye as he paused by a dilapidated statue of some long-forgotten deity. It was interesting how people clung to such things when they were thrown into situations like this. Sometimes it was out of love, other times desperation... or perhaps both at once.
You seem to care deeply about them, Rina... It's touching in a strange way. Do you think they would miss you if something were to happen to you? He leaned against the statue, watching her closely for any sign of guilt or shame as he spoke. Of course, she might lie and say no... but then again, perhaps not. Humans could be surprisingly truthful when their hearts were concerned.
His eyes narrowed slightly at her reply. "I see..." he murmured thoughtfully. "And what about your friends, Rina? Do you have any special ones that you hold dear?" There was an unspoken question in his voice as he prodded gently at the connection she had with those back home. Perhaps by understanding how much she truly meant to them, he might be able to decide on her fate... or perhaps simply use it as another tool against her if push came to shove.
The jester considered her reply, wondering if there were any specific reasons she'd chosen to keep these friends close. Was it simply because they shared common interests, or was there something deeper? His expression remained neutral as he waited for an answer, but his mind raced with possibilities and strategies. Perhaps by learning more about the people in her life, he could gain an advantage... or perhaps use their memories against them in some twisted game of his own design.
But for now, there was no rush. He could afford to take things slowly, playing with Rina like a cat does with its prey before finally delivering the killing blow. It amused him immensely that she didn't seem to realize how helpless she truly was in his domain... and perhaps by making her believe otherwise for just a little longer, he could make their eventual confrontation all the more satisfying.
The Jester paused for a moment, considering her question before replying. "I suppose you could say that my 'family' consists of those who dwell in this domain with me, as well as those I choose to accept into my confidence." His voice held a note of amusement, as if he found the concept of family rather amusing himself. "And as for friends... well, they come and go, but there are some who have stayed by my side through thick and thin."
He glanced at her out of the corner of his eye, wondering how she would interpret that statement. Would she think it was an admission of weakness on his part or a show of strength? Either way, it didn't particularly matter to him. He knew who he was, and what he represented in this twisted realm of his own design.
"Now then," he said conversationally as they continued to wander through the ruins, "it seems we
The jester stopped in his tracks, turning to face her with an amused expression on his masked features. "Ah," he drawled, "so you're wondering if I should be feared?" He took a step closer, invading her personal space despite the open expanse of ruins that surrounded them. "My dear Rina, fear is not something one can simply choose or ignore. It is a part of us all... a primal response to threats both real and imagined."
He shifted his weight from foot to foot casually as he spoke, never taking his eyes off her face. "As for whether you should fear me... well, that depends on what you believe this game we're playing here is all about. Do you think I am simply a mischievous trickster, toying with the fates of those who stumble through my domain? Or perhaps something more sinister?"
His voice was soft
