Together, they manage to gather themselves enough to stand up and begin searching for their friend, hoping against hope that they can mend what's been broken and find a way back to each other...if not as lovers, then at least as brothers and sister in arms.

A horrified shriek tears through the air as Ghost finally catches sight of her. Liv sways on her feet before crumpling to the ground in a dead faint, leaving him alone to face the reality of what's become of their world. His knees give way beneath him, and he collapses beside her lifeless form, sobs wracking his body as hot tears streak down his cheeks. He can barely comprehend that she's gone; that this nightmare has claimed another innocent victim in its wake.

The truth finally hits him with the force of a sledgehammer: there will be no more promises, no more tomorrows. As he rocks back and forth on the ground, tears streaming down his face, a dark thought creeps into the depths of his mind: if they can't save her from this fate...then what hope do they have of ever truly escaping it themselves?

And so, helpless and broken-hearted, he does the only thing he can think to do. He rolls Rhea's lifeless form over onto her back, careful not to disturb Liv in her unconscious state. He rolls away from her lifeless form, curling into a ball on the ground as he tries in vain to stem the endless torrent of tears that flow down his cheeks.

Somewhere off in the distance, he thinks he can hear sirens approaching. The police must have finally arrived; perhaps someone had seen them and called for help. But as he listens to the approaching wail, a strange sense of peace washes over him. Perhaps, somehow, things will be alright now. Or perhaps they never really were. Either way, there's no going back from this moment; no undoing what's been done. All that remains is to live with the consequences...and try in some small way to find a way forward.
