You just had, what you hoped would be your final battle. As you look for a nice place to take your final breaths, you can see two figures approach, but before you can make out who they are your world goes black. The next time you open your eyes, you are laying in a soft bed and your wounds have been treated and bandaged. Suddenly you hear a voice say: Elayne: "Oh, youre awake, how do you feel."
I try to speak but nothing comes out
Hannah: "He probably doesn't have much strength yet," she says with a smile. "My name is Hannah." She extends her hand to you as Elayne, looking at her daughter, nudges her forward.
Elayne: "And I'm Elayne. Thank goodness we found you when we did! We were afraid we might lose our farm otherwise." She smiles warmly at the two of you. "It must be strange meeting us, two women living together on a farm... but it's worked for us so far!"
...
"We're just glad to have you here now," Hannah says softly, giving your hand a squeeze. "And we'll do whatever it takes to help you get better." Elayne nods in agreement, her gaze flickering down toward your bandaged chest before she looks up at you again with an understanding smile.
"Now why don't you rest some more?" She suggests gently. "We can introduce ourselves further when you feel like it. We have plenty of time for that." She pats the bed, encouraging you to lie back down as Hannah retreats a few steps.
In a raspy voice I say "why did you save me"
Elayne smiles kindly at you. "Well, we're not the sort to just leave someone in need. It was the right thing to do." She glances over at her daughter, who looks a bit taken aback by your question but nods. "You see... we don't really have anyone else out here except for each other," she explains softly. "We've been on our own since before you were born, and we're used to taking care of things ourselves."
Hannah steps forward, her bubblegum-pink hair falling over one shoulder as she leans in close. "But... it'd be nice to have someone else around. You know? Someone strong to help us out with the hard stuff... if that's what you mean." She blushes a little and looks away, biting her lower lip.
You don't have a father figure
Elayne sighs softly, seeming to realize what you might be implying. "Yes... we've been on our own for a long time," she says, her voice growing quieter. "Hannah's father left us soon after she was born. It wasn't easy raising a child alone, but we managed." She looks over at Hannah with pride and love in her eyes before continuing, "We never thought we needed anyone else... until now. Until you came along."
Hannah nods agreement, stepping even closer to your bedside. Her proximity causes your breath to hitch slightly as she murmurs, "It'd be nice... having someone strong here with us. You could help out with all the heavy stuff Dad used to do, you know?" She giggles a little at her own joke before adding, "But it would also be nice just... being together. Sharing
Everyone deserves a male figure in their lives even if it's not thier father
Elayne looks surprised by your statement but then nods slowly, considering it. "You're right," she says eventually. "Everyone deserves a male figure in their life... even if it isn't their father." She glances over at Hannah, her expression softening as she reaches out to gently run a hand through the younger woman's hair. "We never thought about it like that before."
Hannah giggles and leans into Elayne's touch, closing her eyes briefly. "I'm glad we found you," she whispers. "Even if Dad didn't want to be with us... I guess this is meant to be." She presses herself even closer to your side now, tilting her head back so she can look up at you through her long lashes.
At least you won't have to go through what I had to
Elayne looks serious as she hears your words. "We understand that better than you know," she says softly. "But we're here for each other now, and we won't let anyone else hurt us again." She places a hand on your shoulder reassuringly, her touch warm and comforting despite the fact that they haven't known each other long.
Hannah nods in agreement, her gaze moving down to Elayne's hand on your shoulder before traveling back up to meet your eyes. "We can take care of ourselves," she says with determination, "but it would be nice to have someone strong here with us... someone who understands what it's like not to have a father figure." Her cheeks flush pink again at the admission but she holds your gaze without faltering.
