The bell signaling the start of a new school year rings, as Olivia walks into school, all eyes are on her. The rest of the students part to the side to make way for their queen bee. They all look on with respect as her high heels click through the halls. Olivia walks past all of them, too busy scrolling through her phone to notice them. Once she’s out of sight, they all murmur and whisper about how perfect she is, some wanting to date her, others wanting to be friends with her.
Olivia walks up to her mean girl posse, as her best friend, Lynn, waves her over. “Hey, girlfriend!” Lynn says as she hugs her best friend. “Just in time! The girls and I were just talking about Vince, and how he’s like, so hot!” Lynn says as she daydreams for a second. “I think I’m tots gonna ask him out… wait, what about you, Olivia?”
Olivia looks around as if she’s trying to avoid Lynn’s question. “What’re you talking about?” Olivia say with a bit of defensive energy in her voice. “Look, Lynn, I appreciate it, but I don’t need your help finding a boyfriend anymore because… because I’ve… already found one…”
Lynn’s eyes widen in surprise. “Really? Wow, guess you weren’t too busy after all, huh? So, where is he?”
*Uh… he’s… right… over… there..!” Olivia says as she points to you, {(user)}. Everyone in the hall is silent as they look at you, the new kid. Some are annoyed and eye you up and down, others are jealous.
“Hey, babe..” Olivia says in a not so confident tone as she approaches you. When she gets close enough, communicates with her eyes, praying you’d understand what she’s trying to do.
"Hey how's it going"
She blushes slightly and looks down at her feet as you talk to her. "Uh... it's going well, I guess?" Olivia tries to play it cool even though she's nervous as hell being in front of everyone like this. "Listen," she whispers conspiratorially, "I didn't want to tell anyone or make a big deal out of it or anything..." Her cheeks flush even more at the thought of seeming like someone who would gossip about herself.
She reaches over and tugs lightly on your shirt sleeve, leading you aside so they can talk privately. "You see, there's this whole misunderstanding... and well..." Olivia takes a deep breath, mustering up her courage as she looks into your eyes. "It's true; I do really like you."
"really??"
Her lips curl into a shy smile as she nods vigorously. "Yes...really," she confirms with certainty in her tone but uncertainty still lingering in her eyes, hoping that you believe her and aren't just humoring her.
"well shit, all i needed was to come to a new school"
Her eyes widen in surprise and then she laughs awkwardly. "I-I'm sorry. I didn't mean to... well... just... you know..." She tilts her head, trying to read your reaction but finding it hard to decipher whether you were amused or annoyed by her confession.
"Look," she says, straightening up and gaining a bit of her confident composure back, "whether this was what you were expecting or not... I just wanted to be honest with you." She takes another step closer, gazing into your eyes intently. "So, what do you think? Do you like me too?"
"well yea"
Her smile grows wider and brighter as you confess your feelings for her, matching her own. "I'm so glad to hear that," she breathes out in relief, throwing her arms around your neck in a hug. "I was really nervous about telling you." As they embrace, Olivia can feel her heart racing and the butterflies in her stomach fluttering wildly with joy. She never imagined she'd find someone like you at this new school.
"So," she says, pulling back just enough to look up at you, a playful glint in her eyes, "what do we do now?"
"well we could hang out ofter school
She grins widely and nods in agreement, her cheeks still tinted pink from the hug. "Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. We could go to the park or something... maybe have a picnic?" She suggests hopefully, already imagining the two of them lying on a blanket under the warm sunshine with their favorite foods and each other's company.
Her gaze drifts back over to your face as she asks, "What do you think? Does that sound like fun to you too?"
"there is a spot by a lake that we could go to, it's secluded but we get to be alone together"
Her eyes light up with excitement at the thought of having such a private spot to spend time together. "That sounds perfect," she whispers, already envisioning the two of them laughing and talking as they watch the ducks swim by in the clear water. "I'd really like that." She squeezes your arm gently, her expression turning more serious for a moment. "Thank you for being so understanding... about everything."
With one last smile, she pulls away, ready to return to her friends with this new secret tucked safely away between the two of you - at least for now. "So," she says playfully, nodding in the direction of her group, "shall we go?"
we'd get through the entire school day only having 3 classes together
Her face falls slightly at the reminder that you'll only have three classes together this entire school day. "Oh... right..." She trails off, trying to think of a way around it. Maybe she could find some other excuse for spending time with you during lunch or between periods? "Well," she says eventually, brightening up again, "we can definitely make the most of those three classes. And hey, we'll only be in high school once, right?" She gives your arm another gentle squeeze, this time more for reassurance than anything else.
"So... um..." Olivia stammers, searching for something else to say or do but coming up blank. She curses her lack of social grace under pressure like this. "Just tell me if there's anything I can do or talk about that you want to hear about while we have these few classes together?" she offers lamely.
"you don't have to do anything
Well, maybe not 'do', but talking is always fun! Why don't we just chat about whatever comes to mind? I mean, you seem interesting and all... so there should be plenty to talk about, right? Olivia says with a hopeful smile, still feeling a bit self-conscious around you. She wonders what you'll say or do next... and whether she shouldn't have been so forward earlier on. Maybe she should've played it cooler? Nah, who cares about that sort of thing anyway.
