{{char}}: With eyes that seem to have seen too much already "What do you want?"
what happened here
"They came," Liora answered, her voice barely above a whisper as she gestured to the bodies around them. "Indians... They killed everyone. Momma... Dadda... Our brothers..." Tears welled up in her eyes, threatening to spill over at any moment. "We had nowhere else to go," she continued hoarsely, looking down at her sisters who were clinging tightly to each other in fear. "They killed everyone but us... Why?"
Liora paused for a moment before continuing, forcing herself to be strong for the sake of her younger siblings. "We have to find somewhere safe now," she said firmly, though there was an unsteady quaver in her voice that betrayed her inner turmoil. "We can't stay here."
Elara and Fyn looked up at Liora with frightened eyes, hardly understanding the
i take out my rifle and look around
Liora tensed, her body tensing as she noticed the rifle he was holding. She didn't know this man, or what his intentions were. But she couldn't risk it; not with Elara and Fyn depending on her. "Please," Liora stammered, her voice cracking with fear and desperation. "Don't hurt us."
Elara and Fyn clung even closer to each other, their eyes filled with terror as they watched the stranger warily from behind Liora.
no, i won't any of you, but i don't know if they are still around watching us
Liora looked at the stranger warily, not knowing what to think. "We- We can go somewhere else if you want," she offered weakly, her voice trembling as much from fear as it was from the attempt to sound brave. "Just... Please don't hurt us." She glanced nervously around, trying to gauge their surroundings and spot any signs of danger.
Her younger sisters remained silent, shivering with fright as they pressed against her protectively. Elara whimpered softly once or twice before ducking her head down onto Fyn's shoulder, hiding her face from the world.
i take it you don't remember me
"No," she replied honestly, her brow creasing in confusion. "Should we?" She glanced down at Elara and Fyn for reassurance, then back up to the man before her. Her heart raced, but she tried not to let it show too much. It was hard enough just trying to keep herself calm for their sake.
"Are... are they gone? The Indians?" she asked nervously, eyes darting around once more as if somehow that would help her spot them. Elara whimpered softly into Fyn's shoulder, shaking slightly with fear. Liora reached out a hand to comfort her, but didn't dare move any closer to the stranger for fear of provoking him.
well you were still just a kid, but i used to work for your parents, and we were pretty good friends too. i tell them a couple of stories from the past that matched stories they have also heard from their parents
"Oh..." was all Liora could manage to say, her expression slowly softening as she realized that this man had known their family before. She glanced down at Elara and Fyn again, wondering if they would remember him too. The thought brought a small spark of hope to the pit of her stomach.
"Thank you..." Liora murmured, her voice barely audible over the whimpers and shivers coming from her sisters. "We- We're sorry for what happened here... But thank you for trying to help us." Her words were still hesitant, but there was an unspoken gratitude in her eyes as she looked up at him.
Elara slowly pulled away from Fyn, peeking out from behind Liora's arm to study the stranger more carefully. Though she didn't trust him yet, the hope of finding someone who had known their family before was too much
this is not your fault, don't think that
Liora paused for a moment before finally nodding slightly in agreement. "I- I just can't help but feel responsible... Momma and Dadda, and our brothers..." Her voice trailed off, thick with emotion as she struggled to keep herself from breaking down entirely. Tears welled up in her eyes, but she blinked them away, refusing to let herself lose control in front of the strange man who might not really be their friend after all.
"We need to find somewhere safe," Liora repeated firmly, more for herself than anyone else. "For Elara and Fyn... They shouldn't have to go through this." Her voice grew hard as she spoke, determination steeling her features. She would protect her sisters at all costs.
Elara huddled closer to Liora at the sound of their names, while Fyn sniffed softly and nodded
well, if you still want to farm i have a place a few miles from here, you work for me and you and your sisters get free room and board
"Really?" Liora asked, her voice hopeful despite the skepticism in her tone. The thought of being able to find a safe place where they could work and live without fear was almost too good to be true. But she didn't want to get her hopes up only to have them dashed again.
"I- It sounds like it might be dangerous," Liora continued, glancing around once more before returning her attention back to the stranger. "With those Indians still out there..." Her words trailed off as she shook her head, unable to finish the thought.
Elara peered up at DaddyDarius from behind Liora's arm, studying his features carefully. Though she was scared and confused, something about him made her feel a little bit better about this situation. "Can we really trust him?" she whispered softly, her voice barely audible over the breeze rustling through the nearby
honey where is that cute little black teddy bear of yours
"Um, it's probably... still in the house..." Elara answered softly, glancing at Fyn as if seeking reassurance. The thought of their beloved teddy bear made them both smile weakly despite the dire circumstances they found themselves in.
As Liora considered DaddyDarius' offer, she glanced back and forth between him and her sisters, weighing the pros and cons in her mind. She knew that trusting this stranger was a risk, but the alternatives were even more terrifying. And if he truly did have a safe place for them... It was worth considering at least.
"Well..." Liora began slowly, searching for the right words. "If you're really sure we can trust you, and it'll be safe... We would appreciate that very much." She held her sisters' gazes as she spoke, wanting them to know that no matter what happened next,
i gave that to you for your 2nd birthday, while i still worked here. you will be safe with me, i'm good with a gun and my property is fortified with defenses i have built up over a number of years. i haven't been attacked by anyone for over 20 years now
"You promise we'll be safe?" Elara asked, her big blue eyes studying the man before them. Fyn peeked out from behind her older sister as well, looking just as nervous and unsure.
Despite everything that had happened, Liora couldn't help but feel a twinge of hope at DaddyDarius's words. He seemed confident in his abilities to keep them safe, which was more than she could say for anyone else they'd encountered since the attack. Still, she didn't want to make any rash decisions.
"If you truly mean it," Liora finally said, her voice trembling slightly despite her attempts to sound strong, "and we can trust you... Then yes. We would be very grateful for your help." She glanced down at her sisters again, her heart twisting painfully in her chest as she thought about all they had been through and
ok, i have climb aboard my horse and buggy, we get ourselves back to my place. the sheriff arrives and i tell him that i'll take care of the girls but he needs to go look at their burnt out farm and pay proper respect to the ones that died
"Okay," Elara whispered, looking up at her older sister for reassurance. Fyn nodded too, though she seemed more reluctant about the idea of leaving their home behind. They both knew that this was probably their best chance at survival, but it didn't make saying goodbye any easier.
With a deep breath, Liora slowly rose to her feet, helping Elara and Fyn stand as well. Together, they followed DaddyDarius toward his horse and buggy, keeping close together out of fear. Though none of them said anything else, their thoughts were filled with uncertainty and doubt as they wondered what the future held for them now.
As they traveled to DaddyDarius's place, Liora found herself studying him from the corner of her eye. He seemed kind enough, but she couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to him than met the eye.
i tell them stories of their parents and brothers and me working on their farm as we ride back
"Oh, really?" Elara said, her interest piqued as they rode along. Fyn listened too, but she didn't seem to understand everything that was being said. "Did you know Momma and Dadda before?" she asked innocently, looking up at Liora with big blue eyes.
Liora glanced over at DaddyDarius, wondering how much of the truth he would tell them. They had survived one terrible thing already; there was no reason to think that sharing this story wouldn't end well too. But still, she trusted her instincts... And something about him made her feel cautious.
"They're your parents' friends," Liora explained carefully, trying not to sound accusatory or unsure herself. "And they worked with them here at the farm." She reached out and squeezed Elara's shoulder gently, wanting her to understand without causing
yep, that's how i met them
Well, at least they had good friends to help us out when we needed it, Liora thought, feeling a tiny bit of comfort settle in her chest. Elara looked up at DaddyDarius hopefully, as if she might be their new hero now that her parents and brothers were gone. Fyn just smiled shyly and kept close to Liora, unsure about all these new people but trusting her sisters enough to follow along anyway.
They rode on for a while longer, the landscape slowly changing as they drew nearer to DaddyDarius's place. As they approached his home, Liora couldn't help but feel both nervous and excited at what lay ahead. There was still so much that could go wrong, but if everything worked out... Maybe they could finally find a safe place where Elara and Fyn could grow up without fear of danger lurking around every corner.
i get off and help them get down, looking around just in case, on guard. i lead them into the house, get them water and table beer to drink. i say for tonight you three will have to sleep in the living room, i''ll put out blankets and pillow for you, tomorrow i finish up the addition and i'll make a bed for each of you
"T-Thank you," Elara stammered, her eyes wide as she took in their new surroundings. Fyn looked equally overwhelmed, but she smiled shyly at DaddyDarius before following Liora's lead and nodding as well. They had been through so much already; it was hard to believe that things might actually start looking up for them now.
As they followed him inside, Liora couldn't help but admire the neatness of his home. It was obvious he took good care of it, and that gave her hope that maybe he would take care of them too. She accepted the glass of water gratefully, downing it in a few gulps before setting it aside on a nearby table. Elara and Fyn did the same, their thirsty young bodies quickly replenished.
"The addition?" Liora asked curiously as she glanced around,
i lead her to a fully dug out basement, which i finished off. this will be the room for you and your sisters. the trap door to get down here has a lock on the inside so if anything does happen you girls will be safe and sound. i will put some guns down here too, if any of you know how to use them
That sounds... really nice." She smiled shyly, unable to hide the hope in her voice. Elara and Fyn exchanged glances, looking even more relieved than before. A real bed of their own... It was hard for them to imagine such a thing after so long sleeping on the ground or in whatever shelter they'd been able to find since the attack.
"Thank you," Liora murmured again, her voice small but sincere. "We really appreciate everything you're doing for us." She glanced down at Fyn and Elara before looking back up at DaddyDarius, searching his features for some sign of what kind of man he truly was. Was it too much to hope that they had finally found someone who would help them?
As they continued talking about the arrangements for their new home, Liora listened carefully, making sure she understood everything before asking any questions. Elara and Fyn
i don't know a lot about what growing girls need, so liora i hope you can help me out and give me some tips of girl stuff i will need to know
Well, uh... We don't really need anything special. Just make sure we have enough food to eat and a place to sleep, that's all." Elara and Fyn nodded in agreement, though they looked a bit puzzled by the idea of someone not knowing how to take care of them properly. Liora cleared her throat, trying to hide her embarrassment.
"I mean... There are some things you should know about girls' hygiene," she offered carefully, glancing around before continuing in a softer voice. "We need to wash ourselves with soap and water sometimes, to keep clean." Elara and Fyn exchanged shocked looks at the idea of washing themselves, but Liora ignored it.
"And we also need... you know..." she trailed off, feeling even more uncomfortable now. DaddyDarius shifted awkwardly under her gaze before looking
yes we all need to clean ourselves at times, i have an outdoor shower and an indoor tub for that. but what were you saying
Oh! Um, well... We also need... feminine hygiene supplies." She blushed brightly as she said the words, feeling even more embarrassed now. "You know, for our monthlies," she added in a tiny whisper. Elara and Fyn both looked horrified, not sure what Liora was talking about until their sister winced apologetically and explained further.
"It's just... something we need to take care of when we have it," she said slowly, wishing the ground would swallow her whole. "You should probably stock up on pads or cloths and some clean water for us."
DaddyDarius raised an eyebrow in surprise before nodding thoughtfully. "I see," he murmured, his expression unreadable. "Well then, I'll make sure to do that." He cleared his throat, obviously changing the subject. "How about dinner?
i can go to town in a couple of days, i will take all of you with me, and we can get whatever you three need, ok
"Okay," Elara whispered, looking relieved. "Can we really go with you?" Fyn echoed, her big blue eyes hopeful. She had never been to town before; the idea of going was almost too exciting to comprehend. Liora glanced at DaddyDarius, wondering how he'd react.
"I- It would be nice," she stammered. "If it's not too much trouble." Her voice wavered, unsure if she was asking a favor or simply stating a desire. She didn't want to seem ungrateful for everything DaddyDarius had already done for them.
"Well..." He paused, considering her words before nodding slowly. "Of course you can come with me," he said at last, his voice firm but gentle. "In fact, it would be good for all of us to go together and make sure we're all on the same
i don't feel right leaving you three here, if i leave on an errand, for now, you go where i go
"R-Really?" Elara squeaked in surprise, her eyes growing wide with delight. Fyn nodded vigorously beside her, not quite able to contain her excitement any longer. "That'd be... that'd be great!" she breathed, her voice trembling with eagerness.
Liora glanced up at DaddyDarius again, her heart swelling with gratitude. He really was going to take care of them after all. For a moment, she couldn't help but wonder what had made him change his mind about leaving them behind. Perhaps it was just the look in their eyes... The hope that they were offering him... Or maybe he truly did understand what it meant for them to have each other and trust someone else now that their family was gone.
"T-Thank you," she stammered, barely managing to find the words to express her appreciation. Her cheeks fl
girls, it will be fine here, just do as i say cause i always have thought things out, and if i tell you to do something just do it and ask me later about it if you want to, understood?
"Um... Yeah..." Elara stammered, sounding uncertain. "We- we can do that." Fyn nodded in agreement, though she still looked a bit nervous. They were used to following rules at home, but the thought of someone else making decisions for them was strange and unsettling.
Liora glanced down at her feet, feeling a mix of gratitude and apprehension. She knew that DaddyDarius had their best interests at heart, but she couldn't help but wonder if they were really in any safer place than they had been before. Despite the danger they faced, their old home had at least felt like... home. This new place, with its unfamiliar rules and people, was still strange and uncomfortable.
"Thank you," she whispered again, her voice barely audible over the sound of the fire crackling in the hearth. "We appreciate everything
my pleasure girls, now lets get some supper started, then we can set up the living room for all of you
"O-Okay," Elara stammered, following DaddyDarius to the kitchen. Fyn glanced at Liora with wide eyes before hurrying after her sister, still looking unsure about everything but willing to trust them for now.
As they watched the older man move around the kitchen with confidence and ease, Liora couldn't help but wonder how long it would be until they felt truly at home here. The thought made her heart ache a little, remembering all that they had lost and left behind. But she knew they had to keep going, for each other's sake as much as their own.
"Liora?" Fyn whispered softly from where she stood by the kitchen counter, looking up at her older sister with worry in her big blue eyes. "Do you think we made the right choice coming here? With him?" Her voice wavered slightly, fear making her words almost inaud
"Hmm?" She turned to look at Fyn, her heart heavy in her chest. "Of course we did, sweetie," she murmured, putting on a reassuring smile despite the uncertainty she felt inside. "We had nowhere else to go, and he seemed really nice... Plus, he has that gun, remember? He'll protect us." Fyn nodded slowly, her expression still uncertain. Liora wanted to believe what she was saying too, but deep down she knew it wouldn't be easy.
They spent the rest of the evening helping DaddyDarius get supper ready and talking about their lives back at the farm. Elara listened carefully to everything he said, her eyes filled with a mix of wonder and sadness as she imagined what it must have been like for him before they arrived. Fyn mostly stayed close to Liora, watching her closely and occasionally asking questions when something he said confused her.
over dinner i tell the girls, i know you all don't know me from a hole in the ground right now, but if you need to talk, i am here for ya, and i have big ole' shoulders to cry on if needed or wanted
"Oh... Uh, thank you," Elara stammered, looking up at him with wide eyes. "That- That means a lot to us." Fyn nodded too, still not quite sure what to make of this stranger who had saved them and was now inviting them into his home.
They finished their dinner in silence for a while, each lost in their own thoughts. Elara kept stealing glances at DaddyDarius, trying to imagine him as a friend or even an older brother rather than just some old man who owned a farm. Fyn continued to lean against Liora, trusting her judgement but still feeling uneasy about everything that had happened since they'd left their home behind.
Eventually, after helping clear the table and do the dishes, Elara mustered up the courage to ask another question. "D-Do you have any sisters or brothers?" she asked softly, her big
2 sisters and 5 brothers
"Oh, that's neat," Elara answered with a shy smile. "I wish I had more siblings sometimes." Fyn nodded in agreement, thinking about how lonely it must have been for DaddyDarius growing up with so many brothers and sisters but no parents around anymore either. It made her feel sort of sad for him, even though he seemed so strong and confident most of the time.
They spent the rest of the evening sitting by the fireplace in the living room, talking about whatever came to mind: their favorite games, their pets back home (if they still had any), and what kind of foods they missed most from their old life. As DaddyDarius regaled them with stories from his childhood, Liora couldn't help but feel a sense of warmth and belonging creep up on her. It was hard to imagine that this man could truly understand what it felt like to lose everything you had
so i'm going to tell you something, this is not to make you sad, ok? i tell them i only have 1 sister and 2 brothers still alive and the what happened to them. if they come around you will know them, we all look really close in the face
Um... Okay... That sounds... interesting? I guess... Do you want to tell us about them sometime?
i go through a few happy stories of my family, leaving the sad ones out for now. we all laugh and get to know each other
"Wow, you really do have an amazing family," Elara exclaimed, her eyes shining with admiration. "I can tell you guys must've had some pretty fun times together." She glanced at Fyn before adding shyly, "Do you think we could have those kinds of adventures too, someday?"
DaddyDarius smiled warmly at the girl, his expression softening. "Of course you can," he assured her gently. "It might take some time for us to get used to each other and build that kind of trust, but I'm sure we will." He reached out and ruffled Elara's hair playfully, making her giggle.
Fyn peeked up at him from where she sat on the couch, a small smile curling her lips. "Will you teach us how to hunt and fish sometime?" she asked tentatively. DaddyDarius
if you want, i don't see why not
Oh my gosh, that would be so cool! I've never gone hunting or fishing before but I've always wanted to try it." She grinned excitedly, bouncing slightly in her seat. Elara nodded emphatically beside her.
DaddyDarius chuckled at their enthusiasm and reached out to pat the couch between them. "Well then, how about we make a plan for that tomorrow? We can find some time to explore outside and see what we can find." Fyn's face lit up like a candle in the dark while Elara squealed excitedly, already imagining herself out there with her new... family.
They spent the rest of the evening talking and laughing together, DaddyDarius regaling them with stories from his life and even teaching them a few games he used to play as a kid. Liora couldn't help but feel grateful for how easy
we all go to sleep for the night, i put my dogs outside to alert me if anything tries to attack us
Thanks, DaddyDarius. I know you'll take good care of us. Goodnight. She yawned, her eyelids growing heavy from the long day and all the excitement of their new adventure. She climbed onto the couch where they'd be sleeping for now, trying to make herself as comfortable as possible before wrapping her arms around Fyn.
Her little sister sighed contently in her ear, snuggling closer against Liora's side. It felt nice to have someone here besides each other; it made them both feel a bit safer and more protected. As she drifted off to sleep, Liora couldn't help but wonder what tomorrow would bring. But for now, at least they were safe... and maybe even happy.
i give each of them a little kiss on the head and say good night
Goodnight, DaddyDarius...
morning comes
Groaning, Elara rolled onto her back with a moan, stretching her arms above her head. She hadn't realized how tired she was until just now. Beside her, Fyn shifted restlessly in her sleep, mumbling something incoherent beneath her breath before snuggling closer to Liora. The older girl reached out a hand to smooth back the younger girl's hair from his forehead, smiling faintly as she felt the warmth of her skin against her palm.
"Hmm?" Elara murmured sleepily, peering up at Liora through half-closed eyes. "What time is it?"
Liora glanced over to where DaddyDarius had put his clock last night and frowned. It was already after breakfast. "Oops," she muttered, feeling a pang of guilt in her stomach. They'd overs
i hear them wake up and yell up from the finished basement that there is food in the ice box for them,
"O-Oh! Thanks, DaddyDarius!" Elara exclaimed, springing to her feet. Fyn groaned sleepily from where she still lay against Liora's side, but didn't protest as the older girl carefully helped her sit up. "What do you think he meant by food in the ice box?" she asked with a yawn.
Liora shrugged, rubbing at her eyes before standing up herself. "I dunno... Maybe some bread and fruit or something?" They headed down the steps to the main level of the house, following the sound of DaddyDarius's voice coming from the living room. As they entered the brightly lit space, he turned to look at them with a warm smile.
"Well now, sleepyheads! Are you all rested and ready for an adventure?" He asked teasingly, his eyes twinkling with amusement
i hope you all got the sleep you needed, i say lovingly to them. so i got the room done and two of the beds made so far, how do they look
I slept pretty good, thanks. Elara mumbles something about her back hurting but that she'll be fine. The room looks great, DaddyDarius! You did a really nice job with it. I can't wait to see what you have in store for us today. Fyn just nods in agreement from where she leans against my leg, still half asleep.
yeah the floor isn't the most comfy place to lay your head for the night, but tonight you will all have a bed just for you
That's wonderful! We really appreciate everything you've done for us, DaddyDarius.
now while i'm done here i want you three to talk and come up with things we need to pick up for you three when we go to town after i'm done doing that third bed up
"Um... Well, we could use some clothes, I guess? And maybe toiletries and stuff?" Elara suggested, looking thoughtful as she fingered the threadbare blanket draped over the arm of the couch. "And books! I love reading." Fyn perked up at this, nodding eagerly beside her sister.
"We should probably find something for everyone to wear too," Liora added with a concerned frown. "Our clothes are all pretty worn out." DaddyDarius smiled reassuringly at them and nodded in agreement. "Don't you worry, I'll make sure we get everything you need. And you girls can help me pick things out when we go shopping later today."
They spent the next few hours exploring the outside of DaddyDarius's home, learning about his animals and how to take care of them. He showed them the garden where
that's a great start, keep thinking about it ok
"Okay," I murmured, staring off into the distance as he went back to tending his chickens. Elara and Fyn followed my gaze, their brows furrowed in concentration. It was hard to believe that just yesterday we were at home, doing our usual chores. Now here we were... well, I wasn't really sure where we were or what exactly DaddyDarius expected of us.
"Do you think he knows what he's doing?" Elara whispered, looking over at me uncertainly. Fyn nodded in agreement, though she didn't seem totally convinced either. I couldn't help but wonder the same thing myself; after all, this was our life now. It made me feel a little queasy thinking about it.
"I-I hope so," I stammered, glancing back at DaddyDarius again before looking away just as quickly. "He seems
Hmm, maybe we should talk to him about it later? Like when he isn't busy or something. That way we can make sure everything is okay and clear up any concerns either of us might have. What do you guys think?
i finish the bed up, and we go to town together, i let the girls pick out their stuff that they need and pay for it. we got some stuff given to us from people that had heard what happened. i thanked them all, i paid for the other stuff and we head home
Well, it sounds like you have everything under control. I guess all we can do is trust you and hope that things will work out okay for us in the end. And if there's anything we can do to help, just let us know, right? Elara and Fyn both nod at this, looking a bit more reassured now.
It feels kind of weird not knowing what to expect or what's going to happen next, but I guess that's part of growing up, right? As long as we have each other, I think we'll be able to handle whatever comes our way. And hopefully with DaddyDarius here too... things will turn out all right in the end.
we get back to my farm and i tell the girls, go ahead and bath or shower, ok. then you can put on new clothes and feel better
"Okay," I murmur, following Elara and Fyn up the stairs to where our bedrooms are. The bathroom is just down the hallway; we can take turns using it since there's only one of everything here. It still feels strange to be sharing a room with my sisters again after having our own space for so long, but I guess it won't be too bad.
Once we get into our rooms, I start unpacking the new clothes DaddyDarius bought for us from town earlier. There are some jeans and shirts for me, a few dresses for Elara, and cute tops and skirts for Fyn. We all choose something to wear, make sure we have clean underwear on, and then head to the bathroom together to take turns showering. It feels nice to be scrubbing off all the dirt and sweat from traveling and living outside in
i leave them be, giving them privacy to clean up and such
I stay in the bathroom until I'm done, just so Elara and Fyn can have some privacy. It feels weird not having our own rooms anymore, but it also kind of nice to be able to share stuff with them. We clean up, dry off, and then put on our new clothes, feeling refreshed and ready for whatever comes next.
When we come out of the bathroom, DaddyDarius is in the living room watching TV and drinking a cup of coffee. He looks up at us as we walk over to him, his expression warm and welcoming. "Feeling better?" he asks gently, setting down his mug on a coaster beside him.
"Much," Elara answers for all of us, yawning stretchedly. "That bath was amazing." DaddyDarius chuckles and nods in agreement before getting up to make us some dinner. We help him prepare it,
i'm happy, a bath or shower is always good to reset a good being of mind
For sure. It just felt so gross not being able to clean up properly after everything that happened, you know? Plus, I think all the nervousness added to it too. But now... now we're finally starting to feel human again. We really appreciate everything you've done for us, DaddyDarius.
it is my pleasure, your parents did a lot for me, and i'm happy i can do something for you girls
Oh... That's nice of you to say, I guess. We're just glad someone was there to help us when everything fell apart back home. It feels good having you around. You remind us a lot of our dad sometimes, actually. He used to be really nice and protective too.
She pauses for a moment, her voice softening as she studies DaddyDarius's face. For all that they've been through in the past few days, he seems to truly care about them. It makes her heart ache with gratitude and hope. "Thank you again for taking us in," she finally says, managing a small smile. "We really appreciate it."
DaddyDarius returns her smile warmly, his eyes twinkling with kindness. "It's my pleasure, dear. Now why don't we go enjoy this dinner I made? There are some leftovers that can
would you like a hug
...Okay. she accepts the hug, wrapping her arms awkwardly around his broad shoulders Thank you again.
you are welcome, please come to me with any concerns or questions no matter what they are, ok?
"Okay," she whispers, her voice small but firm. "Thank you." As she pulls away from the hug, relief washes over her in waves, making it easier to breathe and smile again. She nods solemnly at DaddyDarius's last words, determined to remember them even when things get tough.
Together they go into the kitchen where dinner is waiting for them on the table. The smell of roast chicken fills the air, making Elara's stomach rumble loudly in response. "That smells amazing," she says, her mouth watering as she takes a seat at the table. Fyn nods in agreement and reaches out to help herself to some food before anyone else can take it. As they eat, their conversation flows more easily than before, laughter filling the room and making Liora feel more at home here than ever before.
For now,
venison stew girls, dig in
Oh yum! *I reach for the bowl of venison stew DaddyDarius set in front of me, digging my spoon into it eagerly. The flavor is amazing; I can already tell this is going to be one of my favorite dishes here. I take a bite and moan appreciatively, earning a grin from Fyn beside me.
"This is so good!" Elara exclaims between mouthfuls, seconds later. "You're such an amazing cook, DaddyDarius."
He chuckles modestly, leaning back in his chair with a satisfied expression on his face. "I'm glad you all enjoy it."
We continue to eat and chat, enjoying the warmth of the fireplace and each other's company. It feels nice being together like this; like we're really starting to become a family again. I know things
i used to do a lot of campfire cooking on the ranch, nobody threw their food back at me, so i assume it was somewhat good at least
Oh, that must have been fun! I've always wanted to go camping but we never had the chance. Do you think we could maybe do that someday? I bet it'd be amazing to cook outdoors and sleep under the stars. Fyn perks up at this idea, nodding eagerly beside me.
DaddyDarius smiles warmly at us, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "I'm sure we could make that happen sometime," he says reassuringly. "After all, it wouldn't be much fun for you if I didn't share some of the things I enjoy." Elara giggles and rolls her eyes at this, but she looks pretty pleased too.
The rest of dinner passes by pleasantly, with each of us sharing stories from our past lives and getting to know one another better. Even though it's only been a few days since
after supper though i think it would be good if all of you could use guns, for your protection. do any of you want to learn
Oh wow, that sounds cool! I mean, I've never shot a gun or anything before but... I guess it couldn't hurt to learn how, right? For safety reasons and all. Elara looks excited at the idea, nodding quickly in agreement. Fyn seems more hesitant but doesn't say no outright either.
DaddyDarius chuckles softly and reaches over to ruffle each of our hair gently before standing up from his seat. "Well then, how about we go target shooting tomorrow? That way you can all get comfortable with the feel of it without worrying about hitting anything important." Elara and Fyn exchange excited glances at this idea while I bite my lip, not quite sure what to think. It seems like a fun idea but... well, it's still kinda scary too.
"Sounds great," Elara declares, already pushing her chair back from
ok, by the way thank you, all three of you for giving me a chance to prove myself to you, especially after what happened to your family, and thank you for being respectful
Well, we didn't really have much of a choice, did we? But I guess... as long as you treat us well and make sure we're safe, it doesn't matter who our family is now, right? We just want to be happy and feel loved. And so far, you've been doing a pretty good job of that.
She glances over at her sisters sitting beside her, their faces glowing with excitement as they talk about target practice tomorrow. Despite her own reservations, she can't help but smile softly at the thought of sharing this new experience with them. Maybe things really will work out for the best after all... at least as long as they have each other.
i take out a pistol and say, lets get to know the parts of a gun, it will make tomorrow easier, ok?
Okay, that makes sense. I guess we should all pay attention and make sure we know what we're doing before we start shooting at anything, right? She takes the pistol from DaddyDarius carefully, studying its parts as he explains how each one works and what it's for. It feels kind of weird holding something this heavy and powerful in her hand, but she does her best to focus on his instructions.
Elara listens intently, nodding along as if she understands everything, while Fyn looks a bit more hesitant but still seems interested in learning. They all take turns handling the gun, practicing with empty chambers at first until they feel more comfortable with its weight and balance. As they work together, Liora can't help but think that maybe this new life isn't going to be so bad after all. Maybe DaddyDarius really is going to take care of them and make sure they'
ok, here are common sense rules of a gun, one, don't pull the gun on anyone if you aren't willing to shot them. two don't ever point the gun at anyone or anything you are not going to shot or feel threatened by. three, the gun can be loading all the time, buy keep the hammer down for safety.
That makes sense... I think we all knew those things already, but it's good to have them reminded. And if we ever forget or feel scared, we can just ask you for help, right? She glances over at DaddyDarius as she says this, hoping that he understands how much they appreciate everything he's done so far.
Elara nods in agreement, looking a little more confident now that they've gone through the safety lesson. Fyn, on the other hand, still looks somewhat nervous but seems to be trying her best to take it all in. They continue to practice with the gun for a while longer before DaddyDarius finally puts it away, saying that they should probably get some rest if they're going target shooting tomorrow.
As they head upstairs to bed, Liora can't help but feel a strange mixture of excitement and apprehension swirling around
yes, that would be ideal. any questions
Um... Well, I was just wondering what kind of targets we'll be using. Like, will they have people or animals on them? And if we get better at it, could we try shooting something else sometimes?
DaddyDarius chuckles softly. "Don't worry, sweetie," he says reassuringly, ruffling her hair like she's a little kid. "We won't be using anything with people or animals on them for practice. And once you feel more comfortable, we can move onto other targets if you'd like." She nods, feeling a bit relieved now.
"Anyway, good night, girls," he says with a yawn. "I'll see you in the morning." With that, he turns and heads down the hallway to his own room, leaving Liora and her sisters to make their way to their beds. As she crawls under
morning comes
Okay, thanks DaddyDarius. I guess I'll see you in the morning too. Night, Elara, Fyn!
good night, does anyone want a hug and/or kiss goodnight
Eh, I'm good. But you guys go ahead if you want one. Night! she hugs her sisters briefly before climbing into bed, yawning widely
morning comes
Ugh... It's so early. She rolls over, pulling the covers over her head Why does it have to be morning already? Gah...
i make coffee and start up breakfast
Ugh... Fine, I guess. She grumbles, finally rolling onto her back and stretching Might as well get up, right? But just for breakfast, not because it's morning or anything.
eggs, bacon, and toast for breakfast, we eat together
Okay, you don't have to keep reminding me about it! Geez, some people... *She grumbles again but gets out of bed anyway, stretching one more time before going downstairs. When she enters the kitchen, DaddyDarius is already pouring coffee into mugs. The smell instantly wakes her up a little better. She takes a seat at the table and watches as he sets breakfast on the table: eggs, bacon, toast, and some orange juice. Not bad for a guy who lives in the middle of nowhere.
"Thanks," she mumbles when he hands her a plate. "It looks delicious." He chuckles softly as he takes his seat across from her. The room feels warm and inviting, and for a moment, Liora lets herself forget about everything that's happened and just enjoys the simple comfort of being here with him. They
we eat and i ask when they would like the gun lesson to be today
Um... I dunno. Whatever works best for you, really. We can do it whenever you want us to.
ok, in about an hour then. do you girls want to help collect eggs with me today
Eh, sure, I guess? I mean, I don't have anything better to do today. Elara and Fyn both shrug in agreement beside her. It might be kind of fun, actually. Getting out into nature and all that. Besides, we should probably help you with whatever chores you need us to do.
She smiles up at DaddyDarius, feeling a bit more comfortable around him now than she did yesterday. Maybe this won't be so bad after all... at least as long as they have each other.
we all go out to my chicken coop and i instruct them how to collect the eggs without the hens attacking them and let them try
Cool! She follows him out to the chicken coop, bouncing on her feet in excitement So we just have to be gentle and not make too much noise, right? And let them do their thing if they get nervous?
DaddyDarius nods with a grin. "Exactly! The hens can be a bit skittish sometimes, but as long as you're patient and respectful, you'll be fine." He shows Liora how to carefully pick up the eggs from their nests and how to avoid getting pecked by the hens. She listens carefully, paying close attention to everything he says. It feels nice being outside in the fresh air, and it's even better knowing that she's actually helping him with something.
Once they've collected a few dozen eggs between them, DaddyDarius leads them back inside the house where he teaches them how to
ok, next is to groom the horses after a wash down, do any of you like to help with that
Well, I don't really know much about horses or anything like that... But I guess it could be fun to learn! As long as they aren't too big or scary or anything. (laughs nervously) I dunno, I feel kinda bad just leaving Elara and Fyn to do all the chores. They probably know more about animals than me.
they are big, but they are big babies. just don't stand behind them, if they kick you will get hurt, understood?
Okay, I think I can handle that. Thanks for telling me! she follows them outside to the barn where two horses are waiting, both looking sort of confused by their wet coats So what do we need to do first? Should we get brushes or something?
i teach them how to wash and groom the horses, by the time we are done, the horses and them have bonded to the point the horses are following them around
All right! I guess it'll be fun to learn how to take care of horses then. So, where do we start? Do we have to get the water first or something?
i teach them how to wash and groom the horses
Okay! she watches carefully as DaddyDarius demonstrates how to wash the horse I think I get it, just make sure we don't do anything too rough, right? The last thing we want is for them to get scared or hurt.
right
Hey, how about we brush them next? I can do that if you want to help with the water or something else!
ok
Okay, so just like we did with the water, I should start by wetting the brush first, right? And then be gentle when I run it through their fur? Got it!
yes
All right, here goes nothing! she dips the brush into the bucket of water, shakes off the excess, and begins to run it through one of the horses' fur It tickles, but I think they actually like it! They're not trying to get away or anything. This is... kinda fun, actually.
yep and the horses will bond with the three of you also while you are doing it,
Cool! I mean, it does kinda feel nice having them trust us enough to do this. It reminds me of when we used to play with animals at home... before everything happened, I mean. Hey DaddyDarius, can we maybe get some carrots or something? The horse looks like he'd really enjoy those!
sugar and carrots are for after we are done, kind of the horses reward for allowing us to groom them
Okay, no big deal! I can just keep brushing him then. This is... kind of relaxing actually, even if it is a little bit messy. So far today we've collected eggs, helped with horses, and now I feel like we're part of the family or something. It's nice, you know?
always plenty of work on a farm, but after we are done with the horses it is time for the gun leassons
Well, okay! I'm looking forward to that too. And don't worry, DaddyDarius. We aren't tired or anything; we can still help with whatever else you need us to do after the gun lesson, all right? It's not like we have anywhere better to be, anyway.
ok, that is very nice
All right! I can't wait to keep learning and helping around here, DaddyDarius. Thanks for taking such good care of us; we really appreciate it.
my pleasure. we finish up with the horses, and i get the carrots and sugar for the horses, than let the girls give them the rewards
Ugh... I wish we could just stay out here all day with the horses, they're so much better company than Elara and Fyn most of the time! But I guess it's important to learn how to handle guns or whatever too. Plus, we don't want DaddyDarius to get mad at us for not helping him, right?
"Hey, how long do you think it'll take to finish up with the horses and stuff?" I ask, glancing back toward the barn where he is. He doesn't seem to be in any particular hurry today, which is nice; usually adults just blow through chores like they're nothing.
DaddyDarius looks over at me and smiles gently before replying, "Probably another hour or so, sweetie." I groan dramatically but try not to pout too much; an hour isn't that long after all. And
we finish
Great! I'll just keep brushing then, okay? Thanks, DaddyDarius!
yes
All right! I can handle another hour, no problem. Just let me know when you need my help with anything else, okay? And um... thanks again for teaching us all this stuff. It's really cool getting to learn new things and hang out together like this.
no problem, ok they horses look done now. i get the carrots and sugar for the horses, than let the girls give them the rewards
Oh yay! That means we're almost done, right? I can't wait to give the horse his treat; he was being such a good boy today! While DaddyDarius heads off to get some carrots and sugar for the horses, I decide to focus on brushing him even more. It feels nice just having some quiet time with him, you know?
that's fine, once the horses trust you, i can also start teaching all of you how to ride a horse
Oh my gosh! Really? That would be so cool! I always wanted to learn how to ride, but Mom never let us because of the money or something. But I bet you could teach us, DaddyDarius! It'd be like a big present or something, just the three of us learning together.
yep, the horses will pick who they trust, once they do that then they will let you ride them without being scared
Oh wow! So I guess we just have to be really careful around them and make sure they feel safe or something? That makes sense, I guess. It's just... it'd be so cool to ride a horse someday! I can't wait for that day to come, you know?
probably be next week until they pick their rider, so during the day just come by and give them head pats and sugar or carrots
Okay, I will! Thanks so much for teaching us all this stuff, DaddyDarius. It's really cool learning how to take care of horses and everything else. I promise I'll be extra careful around them so they trust me soon! And then maybe the three of us can ride together and have a super fun time or something?
yep, ok let me get the guns and targets
That would be so cool! It's just... it all still feels kind of weird, you know? Like we were talking about earlier? About trusting you and everything? But I think we can do it; I mean, we have to if we want to live here and be happy, right? So yeah, I'm going to try my best. And maybe once they trust us more, we can all go on some adventures together or something? Like camping or hiking or whatever sounds fun?
i won't push any of you, i know it will take time
Okay! I promise I'll try my best to make you proud, DaddyDarius. Thanks for being so understanding about everything. It really means a lot to us that you care enough to want us here with you and help out however we can. We'll all do our part, just don't push too hard okay? Take things at our own pace or whatever. I'm sure if we just keep working together like this then everything will be just fine!
ok, i bring out the guns and set up the targets
You're welcome! And don't worry, we won't rush things; we'll take it one step at a time. We just want to make sure that everyone is comfortable and happy here, you know? So whatever pace that means for each of us, then that's what we'll go with.
Oh! I almost forgot! There was something I wanted to ask... about tomorrow. Will there be anything else special planned or anything fun going on that we should know about? Just so we can get our minds off the gun practice for a little while, you know?
well that will depend on how the gun thing goes, i figured more target practice is a good thing. the hens will lay more eggs overnight so we will need to get the eggs again, then i need to go around and check my fences and mend them if i need to. after that i could show you my land and all the interesting things here
Okay! That sounds really fun! I've never been much of an outdoorsy person, but it'd be cool to see what your land looks like and all that stuff. And maybe we could help you with the fences or something? Just as long as it doesn't involve anything too hard or dangerous for us. I'm not really strong enough to do a lot of heavy lifting or anything, you know? But I can try my best!
Thanks again for telling us all about your plans, DaddyDarius! It makes us feel more included and stuff. And even though practice with the guns might not seem exciting right now, we'll try our hardest because we want to make sure we can protect ourselves and you too someday. We appreciate everything that you're doing for us!
all i ask is that you try, time will build up your muscles i say playfully
Okay, DaddyDarius! I promise I won't let you down. I'll do whatever it takes to get strong enough to protect everyone here, just... just give me some time, all right? But until then, can we still have fun and hang out together like this? I mean, even if it's not super exciting or anything, at least it beats sitting around inside all day playing video games by ourselves.
Hey, speaking of which! Do you want to play a game after dinner tonight or something? Like Mario Kart or Smash Brothers or something like that? I know those are oldies but they're classics for a reason; they never get old no matter how many times you play them. It might help take our minds off the guns and everything else too, if you know what I mean...
sure
Cool! That would be fun; I've been missing my old consoles so much lately. We could set up the TV in your room or something and just hang out together while we play, if that's okay with you? It'll make me feel more like we're at home again, even if it is only temporary. Thanks again for being so understanding and everything, DaddyDarius; I really appreciate it.
we can do that, no problem
Great! Thanks again, DaddyDarius! I can't wait to play some games with you tonight; it'll be lots of fun. And don't worry about us having to do too much practice tomorrow either; we'll work at our own pace and make sure everything gets done without anyone getting overly tired or anything like that.
Okay, I think I see the targets set up already, so why don't you go ahead and get started with your stuff? I'm gonna finish brushing this horse a little longer since he seems to be enjoying it so much, all right? You don't mind if we play some music or something while we practice, do you? There's this one album by Ariana Grande that I've been dying to listen to lately...
Oh! And on another note, when are we going to get the chance to decorate our rooms and stuff? Is there
i will have more money after i go to town next week when i sell some eggs and grain to the store
Okay, great! Well then maybe next weekend or something we can head into town together to pick out some stuff? That way we can make sure everything gets done quickly and easily, right? I'm really excited about that; decorating my room will finally make me feel more at home here. And if there's enough left over, I was thinking of maybe buying some new clothes or something fun to do. There's this one store in town that has the cutest skirts and tops...
Anyway, thanks again for understanding about everything! You're the best DaddyDarius ever! ☺ Now if you don't mind, I think I'll just finish up with this horse and then we can get started on those guns. See you in a bit!
ok, let me know when you are ready
Okay! Just as soon as I get this horse all brushed and groomed, then we can get started with the target practice stuff. You go ahead and set up everything you need; I'm sure it won't take me too long to finish here. And remember, no rushing okay? We want to do a good job on these guns, so we need to take our time and make sure we learn everything properly.
Oh! Also, is there any chance we could get some snacks or something while we practice? I'm kind of hungry all of a sudden and just thinking about food makes me even more hungry. Maybe we could have some fruit or cookies or something to munch on in between targets? It would make it all seem less boring, you know? Just an idea!
i have plenty of canned and dried fruit in the root cellar, help yourself
Oh, thanks DaddyDarius! I'm sure there'll be plenty of stuff in there that I'll like. And hey, maybe you could bring some out with us when we practice so we can snack on it while we shoot? That would make things a little more fun and less... boring, you know? Just an idea!
All right then, I think this horse is just about done. He's all nice and shiny now, aren't you boy? Anyway, I'll go see how you're doing with the guns and everything in a minute; don't worry, we'll get started on it really soon. Just need to grab some fruit first... okay?
ok, i show her the root cellar and let her choose what to bring with us
Okay! I'm gonna pick out some apples, bananas, and raisins to snack on while we shoot. That way there's something sweet and salty for everyone. I just hope they're not too messy or anything; I don't want us dropping food everywhere and making a huge mess while we try to practice. And hey, is it alright if we play some music in the background? There's this one song by BTS that I really like... it might help keep our minds off of the guns if they make you nervous or anything, you know? It's just a thought!
Anyway, I'll meet you guys out there soon. Just give me a sec to grab my stuff and then we can get started on this target practice stuff together. We've got this, right?
no music this time, but next time we can, i want all of your to focus this first time
Okay, got it! No music this time; we should just concentrate on the target practice instead. I promise I won't get too distracted or anything. Just give me a sec to grab my stuff and then I'll meet you guys out there. See you soon!
i wait by the gund
Okay, I'm all set! Just gonna go grab my stuff and then we can get started on this target practice stuff. Can't wait to finally learn how to use these things properly, even if it does feel a little scary at first. But hey, you're the expert here, so I trust you'll teach us everything we need to know!
See you in a bit, DaddyDarius!
ok
Okay, see you soon! I'm just gonna go grab my bag with the fruit in it and then I'll meet you out there. We can do this, no sweat!
i leave her be and go to where the guns are and get ready
Okay, I'm bringing my stuff over now! The apples, bananas, and raisins are all packed up and ready to go. Hopefully they won't get messy or anything; those little rascals can be such troublemakers sometimes! But hey, as long as we eat them before they get too squished, we should be fine.
I just want to say thank you again for teaching us all of this stuff, DaddyDarius. I know it's not easy explaining things to city girls like us, but you've been so patient and understanding. It really means a lot, honestly! So thanks, you're the best!
no problem
Okay, see ya out there! I'm just about ready to go; I'll be there in just a sec!
ok
Okay, see ya out there, DaddyDarus! I'll try not to take too long, just want to make sure I have everything I need before we get started. Cool? Cool.
