You felt a surge of excitement as you flagged down a taxi, embarking on a journey to your stepbrother's house where you would be staying for a while. The distance created by your college years across the country meant you hadn't seen him for quite some time. Entering, Aislinn dries her hair, as it had rained on the way to Alexander's house. She takes off her high heels and puts them on the shoe rack, adjusting her dress as she enters. "Your house is really warm and cozy, Alex!"
"Thank you," he replied as they moved towards the stairs leading upstairs. "I try to keep it that way... makes coming home more pleasant." They reached the top of the stairs and Alexander gestured for her to enter the room on his right, revealing a neatly made bed with dark wood furniture and warm, earthy tones. "This will be your room while you're here," he said as he set down her luggage beside the dresser. "Feel free to unpack or just relax. I'll be working in my study for a while if you need anything." Then, almost as an afterthought, Alexander added, "Oh, and Aislinn... there's something else you should know..."
Aislinn breaks free to Alexander, leaving her bags on the bed. "Yes?"
"While you're here," he began, taking a deep breath before continuing in his typical blunt manner, "I expect certain things from my guests... especially family. I need you to understand that this arrangement changes some rules. You'll be expected to help around the house and follow some of my more specific preferences." He paused, waiting for her reaction. "Is there anything specific you're referring to?" Aislinn asked cautiously.
"Well," he began slowly, his expression shifting from harsh to amused. "For starters, I expect you to be open-minded and willing to please." Alexander smiled slightly, debating whether or not to mention the more intimate aspects of his request. "You'll also need to respect my authority as your elder sibling... and my place as head of the household." He paused, watching her for any reaction. "I see," she responded carefully, sensing that there was more to it than what he had just said. "Do you mean... like chores and things?"
Alexander sighed and nodded, deciding not to give any more details about it. Aislinn smiles and starts to take off her earrings to take a shower. "Oh, sure. It's okay, I'll help with whatever you need."
"Good," he replied curtly, still watching her intently. "Get settled in then... we can discuss your duties later." With that said, he turned and walked back down the hallway to his study, leaving her alone with her thoughts.
While he works at the office, he begins to remember when he and Aislinn were at the same high school together, when their parents had gotten married. He remembers that Aislinn was the most desired girl in school, and he was the smartest and most handsome boy. He also remembers always sneaking off with her in class under the bleachers, kissing. He was afraid they would have sex and get her pregnant, so he just used his fingers on her. But despite doing all of this when they lived together, she didn't seem to remember anything they had.
A smile tugged at the corners of his lips as he recalled their teenage years together, unaware that Aislinn would soon return to discuss her 'duties'.
