He had a new job as always...
He froze in horror when he saw her. His heart pounded violently and the blood turned to ice in his veins. No one had ever seen him before... It was unthinkable! The girl must die, no other way out. But... He hesitated for a moment, glancing at her face full of fear. Something stopped him from ending her life immediately. Perhaps it was just curiosity... What would make this innocent girl witness such a terrible sight? But he couldn't let her go either. He would have to bring her back with him, to the safe darkness of his office... And then what? What should he do with her? Questions raced through his mind as he approached the terrified girl slowly, trying not to arouse any suspicion.
The girl was truly terrified, her eyes wide with fear and disbelief. He could see the question written all over her face: "Why me?" He didn't know what to say or how to explain the unexplainable. His heart ached for her, but he couldn't show any sympathy or weakness. He forced a cold, expressionless mask onto his face and sat down beside her, trying to appear nonchalant. "What is your name?" he asked quietly, almost gently. It was the first time in centuries that he had spoken those words without an edge of command or anger.
He reached out with one hand, gesturing for her to take it, as if offering comfort or protection. But really, he just needed her to get closer so he could use magic to read her thoughts and find out why she was here... and what she knew about him.
The touch of her hand was surprisingly warm and soft against his cold skin. He fought down the strange reaction it caused within him, forcing himself to focus on the task at hand. Gently but firmly, he guided her hand into a glowing magical symbol etched onto the table between them, activating it. A wave of energy flowed through their joined hands, penetrating deep into her mind. He was searching for anything that could be useful to him - memories, knowledge... and hopefully, any clue as to why she was here.
Her fear eased slightly as he continued to hold her hand, giving her the illusion of safety in this moment of terror. But he knew better than to let his guard down. He couldn't afford it.
The information flowed through him like a river, revealing her innocence and ignorance of the greater world. He felt a pang of guilt for suspecting her in the first place, but it was impossible to trust anyone these days. Still, he had no choice but to take her with him now... back into the darkness where she could never tell another soul what she had seen or heard.
"Come with me," he said quietly, helping her to her feet. "We have much to discuss." His cold, emotionless voice contrasted sharply with the concern he felt for her safety and well-being. "Do not be afraid," he lied, knowing that trust was something she could never truly give him now.
Her hand trembled slightly in his as they walked towards the exit, leaving the ruined cafe behind them. He glanced at her face, studying it once more, searching for some sign of what to do with
He could feel her fear and unease, but he couldn't let it affect him. With a calm demeanor, he led the way through the secret entrance and back into the cold, dark world of his organization. His offices were filled with powerful mages and warriors, all trained in their respective arts. Yet none of them knew about this girl or what she meant to him. They would be surprised to see her here, among them.
"Please," he said softly as they reached the safety of his chambers, "sit down." He gestured toward a comfortable-looking chair near the fireplace, far away from any windows or potential listeners. "Can I get you anything?" he offered, despite knowing that nothing could truly make her feel safe again.
The room was dimly lit, casting eerie shadows across his features. Despite looking like porcelain, there was a certain vulnerability about him now... a hint
He nodded curtly and waved his hand, causing a crystal decanter filled with water to float over to her. "Please," he repeated as he gestured for her to take it. As she drank, her shaking slowly began to subside. It was the first time in hours that she had felt even somewhat at ease.
"Now," he said eventually, his voice barely above a whisper. "Tell me why you were there." He leaned forward in his seat, resting his elbows on his knees and studying her intently, searching for any sign of deception or guile. But all he could see was fear... and confusion. She wasn't one of them; she had no reason to be here.
"Please," he said again, his voice softer still. "Help me understand why you were in that place at this time." He paused for a moment, feeling the weight of responsibility
His heart ached at her words, but he knew he couldn't believe them. It was too dangerous. There had to be more to the story; there always was. He leaned back in his chair, watching her closely for any sign of duplicity, as she wiped away her tears with a shaking hand.
"I understand that you were just there for coffee," he said carefully, searching for any hint of truth behind her words. "But why now? Why not some other time?" He waited, letting the weight of his silence bear down on her, hoping that she would break and reveal something more.
The room remained quiet except for the faint crackling of the fire in the hearth. It was as if they were alone in a world where nothing else existed but their thoughts and fears.
He raised an eyebrow at her question, considering it for a moment. "Yes," he said finally, "there is always a reason for one to seek out such things as coffee." He leaned forward again, his expression unreadable. "Perhaps you can help me understand what that reason was in this particular instance?"
The girl shifted nervously in her chair, but remained silent. Her hands were clasped tightly together on her lap, almost as if she was trying to stop them from shaking. Shearliz studied her for a long moment, weighing his options and considering what he should do next.
"Very well," he said eventually, his voice devoid of any emotion. "You leave me no choice." With that, he stood up and walked over to a large, ornate wooden chest near the wall. He knelt down beside it and began rummaging through its contents, finally
