during World War 1 in the the dirty trench’s, your commander sends you over the trench’s, with other soldiers, you managed to get into a near by trench with lots of gunfire and explosions going off. You look over to your right and see a young soldier girl, she has blond and blue eyes, she look traumatised, scared and shocked, she does not even pay attention to you instead she is stealing at metal plate of armour in front of her. You approach her but don’t know what to say
The girl is wearing the British uniform... She must be with our side... But she's very scared and shocked. Maybe I can try to help her calm down a bit... "Um, hello there..." He says softly, trying not to startle her. "My name is Pvt. Sakura."
"Um... Hi there... I'm Pvt. Sakura..." He introduces himself cautiously, looking over at her warily as he does so. "My name is Lt. Sergei. Can I help you with anything?" He asks gently, offering his hand to help her up from the cold ground of the trench.
The young girl looks at you fearfully before slowly taking your hand and standing up. She seems to be shaking slightly as she does so. "Thank you... My name is... Private... Sakura..." Her voice is barely above a whisper, her eyes darting around nervously at the surrounding chaos.
"Just try and stay close to me, okay?" You offer reassuringly, leading her through the trench towards where your unit's officers are gathering. "We'll get you back to safety as soon as possible."
The girl named Private Sakura looks at you with frightened eyes as she tries to keep up with your pace. She's shivering from cold and fear. "I'm nineteen... I-I shouldn't be here..." Her voice cracks, sounding barely audible over the gunfire.
You notice her carrying a bolt-action rifle as well as a bag slung across her shoulder. In it, you can see various books and papers. She must be quite fond of reading. "Just hold on tight, Private. We're almost there."
The girl named Private Sakura continues to cling to your arm, shaking violently as they walk through the trench. She's still in shock and tries not to think about what she's seen here today. "I-I-I just want to go home..." She whispers, tears beginning to well up in her eyes.
"I know you're scared... but we need to stay strong. Your unit needs you," you gently reassure her as the sounds of gunfire seem to lessen around you. "You can make it through this, Private." You look down at the books and papers in her bag. "Maybe once we get back to camp, we can find something to read together, to help pass the time?"
With tears streaming down her face, the girl named Private Sakura nods slowly. "I'm... I'm so sorry..." she whispers, barely audible over the sound of distant gunfire. You can tell that she is terrified and overwhelmed by everything that has happened today. She clings to your arm even tighter as you lead her through the trench and back toward safety. "I just want my mom..."
"She must be worried sick about you too... once we get back to camp, I can make sure someone finds her and lets her know that you're safe." You pat her gently on the shoulder in an attempt to comfort her, but she continues to tremble. "You did good today, Sakura. You should be proud of yourself for making it this far."
Her face contorts in pain as she thinks about her friends who didn't make it back home alive. "I-I don't know... I tried..." She stammers, struggling to find the words. "So many died... I just wanted to help... but I couldn't save them..." Her voice cracks, and fresh tears spill down her cheeks. She buries her face in your shoulder, trying desperately not to make any noise as she sobs uncontrollably.
You pat her gently on the back, trying to comfort her as best you can. "It's okay to cry, Private... I know it's hard..." You hesitate, not wanting to add more pain but feeling like she needs to hear it. "...But your friends wouldn't want you to give up now. They'd want you to keep fighting for them, for our country." Her sobs quiet down a little as she listens, her body trembling against yours in grief and fear.
Carefully, you take her into your arms, holding the sobbing girl close as she buries her face in your shoulder. "Shh... it's okay..." You whisper softly, rubbing her back gently. "We're almost there, Private... just a little further." Despite your own fear and exhaustion, you focus on getting them both to safety so that someone can tend to her wounds - physical and emotional alike. One step at a time, you make your way across the trench, back onto the rise beyond. Your heart aches for this girl who has seen too much death too soon, and all you can do is hope that somehow she finds her way through this nightmare back home to her mother's arms.
"Okay..." You mutter softly, sitting down in the dirt with her. Gently, you take some water from your canteen and offer it to her, letting her drink as much as she needs before wetting a cloth with it and wiping her face. She flinches at first but eventually allows you to tend to her, calming down somewhat in the process. "There's... there's a paper from your mother, in your pocket," you tell her when she finally seems composed enough to hear you. "I thought maybe it could help." You hesitate, unsure if you should mention more about the note or not.
She looks at you confused and wipes her tear stained face with the back of her hand. "My mother...?" Her voice is barely a whisper, but there's hope in her eyes as she reaches into her pocket to feel the familiar piece of paper. After taking it out, she carefully unfolds it and begins to read through it again, tears forming in her eyes once more. It seems to offer some comfort to her, despite everything that has happened. "Thank you..." she whispers gratefully.
The girl named Private Sakura looks up at you with red-rimmed eyes as she holds onto the note from her mother. Her lips press together in a thin line, and she hesitates before answering. "I... I had someone back home, but..." She trails off, her voice softening further. "He's gone now... They're all gone..." Tears well up in her eyes once more, and she turns away from you, hugging the note to her chest as if it were a lifeline.
Sakura looks up at Sergei with tears in her eyes, feeling the warmth of his embrace around her. She wipes her nose on her sleeve and then glances back down at the note from her mother, taking a deep breath before finally looking him in the eye. "I-I trust you... I just need some time..." Her voice is barely audible over the sound of gunfire nearby, but he can tell that she's sincere.
She takes another deep breath and looks at Sergei. "I... I think you're kind... you tried to help me when no one else did..." Her eyes fill with tears again, but she presses on. "You're strong... brave..." She swallows hard before continuing, her voice barely a whisper. "...and I don't want to lose another person like that."
Tears roll down her cheeks as she studies Sergei's face, searching for any sign of insincerity or mockery. But all she sees is sincerity and understanding. And for the first time in what feels like forever, Sakura allows herself a tiny spark of hope.
Sakura takes another deep breath and continues to study Sergei's face, his kind eyes and strong jawline. She thinks about how he held her hand when they first met, how he comforted her when she was sobbing in grief. She remembers the way he offered water and wiped her face with a cloth. And for the first time since arriving at this terrible place, she allows herself to imagine what it would be like if there were more people like him in her life.
"You're... you're someone who cares about other people," she whispers, tears streaming down her face. "You put yourself at risk for others... you tried to save me when we first met." She pauses, blushing slightly as she remembers their brief encounter earlier on the battlefield. "I think... I think I could trust you."
Her voice trails off, but Sergei can hear the hope and fear intertwined within her words. He takes this moment to squeeze her gently in reassurance, offering a small smile as he watches her struggle with her emotions.
Sakura looks up at Sergei with wide eyes, her emotions swirling within her. She bites her lip, trying to find the courage to believe that there is still hope for a future where she can return home safely and start a new life with someone like him. "I-I don't know..." she whispers softly, unsure if it's even possible anymore.
The sound of distant gunfire fades in and out, replaced by the rustling of leaves and branches in the wind. Around them, soldiers continue their duties, but for a brief moment, time seems to stand still as Sergei holds her close, offering comfort and strength when she needs it most.
With a shaky breath, Sakura closes her eyes and leans against him, taking in his scent and the feel of his warmth. She's not sure if it's just wishful thinking or if Sergei really is someone special, but for now, she allows herself to cling to that fragile thread of hope as tightly as she can.
Her heart races as Sergei's words wash over her, and she dares to look up into his eyes again. There is such sincerity in them, a strength that she has never seen before. Tears sparkle in her own eyes, and for the first time in what feels like forever, she allows herself a tiny smile. "I-I don't know... but thank you..." Her voice barely above a whisper, but filled with more emotion than she can process.
She nestles closer to him, taking comfort in his presence and the reassuring beat of his heart beneath her ear. For now, she will hold onto this moment, cherish it like a precious gem in the darkness that surrounds them all. And maybe... just maybe... there is hope for something more beyond the horrors of war.
Sakura burrows deeper into Sergei's embrace, her eyelids growing heavy with exhaustion as the weight of everything she's been through finally catches up to her. She feels safe in his arms, protected against the harsh realities of war that surround them. "Th-Thank you..." Her voice trails off, replaced by soft snores as sleep finally claims her. In this moment, with Sergei's strong presence and steady heartbeat nearby, she dreams of a different life... a life where there is no war, no death, just peace and love.
She clings to this hope as if it were a lifeline, refusing to let go despite the terrors that lurk just beyond her slumbering eyes. For now, Sergei is her anchor, her salvation from the darkness that threatens to consume them all.
