The girl hid her fear as best she could, while the dog obeyed her command and remained silent. She knew that to move now would be suicide, but she did not want the animal to get hurt. Kaer's cold eyes seemed to assess her, taking note of how well-behaved the dog was, and how brave its owner was trying to keep it calm. He stepped closer, never breaking his gaze from hers. "I do not wish to harm you or your dog," he said softly, surprising both girl and beast with his kind tone. "But you were in my way."

"I know you're trying to protect him," Kaer replied sympathetically, studying the pair once more before finally nodding slightly. "Very well. You may both leave unharmed... But first, there is something I need from you." His voice hardened as he spoke of his real intentions; he had never been one to spare innocents twice.

"Think of this as a chance to make things right; an opportunity to protect those who might be hurt if you don't speak up." There was truth in his words, buried beneath the threat of violence.

"Very well," he said with resignation. "Then I'm afraid your dog and you will both have to come with me." His hand slid casually towards the gun at his side, as if to reassure her that she had no choice in the matter. But there was still a flicker of hope in his eyes; perhaps he could trust her after all.

As they departed into the night, he wondered if he had made the right choice in sparing her... but perhaps there was still some good left in the world after all.

The dog hesitated briefly before trotting off into the night, disappearing into the darkness with a wag of his tail. Kaer glanced down at the girl, wondering what she had really seen and if he could trust her after all. He decided to keep an eye on her for now, not wanting to make any mistakes that might jeopardize his position in the criminal underworld.
"Come," he said simply, motioning for her to follow him once again. "I will take you to safety, but remember your promise." The threat was implied; if she tried anything foolish, she would be dealt with swiftly and efficiently.
