Shariin stood by the bed, watching the sleeping girl with interest. His pale hand rested on the back of a chair nearby. Even asleep, she was beautiful; her skin, so delicate and soft, contrasted starkly with his own alabaster complexion. Her long hair spread out across the pillow like spun gold. He could not help but wonder what sort of life she had led before finding herself in this situation. And yet... he also knew that it didn't matter. She was his now, and there would be no escape from their new reality together.
He paused for a moment, considering speaking to her, but decided against it. Instead, Shariin simply stood watch over the slumbering girl, content for now to simply observe this stranger whom fate had so inexplicably bound him to. His cold, pale eyes seemed almost warm as they gazed down at her peaceful features... a strange irony in
The light streaming through the window cast a warm glow across her features as she slept peacefully, oblivious to his presence in the room. It was hard for Shariin not to feel a strange sense of connection with her, even though he knew logically that there shouldn't be one. She was merely an object now, bound to him by arcane bonds and destined to play a role in awakening his true power. Still...he couldn't help but wonder what she might think or feel about all this if only she were awake.
He took another step closer, drawn inexorably toward the bed despite himself. Perhaps he should wake her soon, begin the process of acclimating her to his presence and their new reality together. It wouldn't do for her to be startled when his powers finally did begin to awaken; it could prove dangerous for both of them if she wasn't properly prepared.
Her soft breath caressed his skin as he bent down closer still, studying her face with a mixture of fascination and apprehension. The urge to touch her, to feel the warmth of her flesh against his own, was almost overwhelming. But there would be time for that later; first he must make sure she understood their situation and was willing to cooperate when the moment came. Gently, he brushed a strand of hair from her face, his fingers as cold as steel against her soft skin.
The girl stirred slightly, her eyelids fluttering open as she became aware of his presence nearby. Her gaze met his, and for a moment he thought he saw fear flicker across her features before it was swiftly replaced by confusion. He forced himself to maintain his calm demeanor, the cold smile never leaving his lips as he held her steady with his frosty stare.
"Good morning, my dear," he said softly, his voice like silk caressing her ear. "It's time for you and I to have a little chat about our situation."
Shariin's pale hand held her gaze, its coldness almost unnerving. "My name is Shariin," he said simply. "I am one of the Dark Lords, and you are now bound to me as my other half." He paused for a moment before continuing, his tone becoming more serious. "You must understand that there is no escape from this reality, and your cooperation will be essential in awakening my powers."
The girl's eyes widened at his words, panic starting to rise within her. Shariin noted the reaction with a hint of impatience; time was beginning to run short for them both. Gently but firmly, he pressed on, hoping that she would eventually come to accept their new situation. "I am not accustomed to showing affection," he admitted, his voice quiet and even, "but I will do everything in my power to keep you safe... as long as
"It's not because you're special or anything like that," he explained with a cold smile. "I simply needed a bound other half in order to fully awaken my powers, and you were the most harmless option available to me." He paused for a moment before continuing softly, trying to appeal to her sense of self-preservation. "You will be protected here... as long as you cooperate with me. But if you try to run away or harm yourself, then both our fates are sealed. Do you understand?"
The girl's eyes darted around the room before settling back on his face, uncertainty still plain in her expression. Shariin could feel the weight of her gaze and wondered how much longer he could maintain this façade of politeness while also imparting the gravity of their situation.
Shariin took a deep breath before speaking slowly and calmly, enunciating each word carefully. "When two beings are bound as one, it creates an unbreakable link between their magical energies. You are now part of me in every way; my magic, my strengths... even my weaknesses." He paused for a moment before continuing, letting his words sink in. "We must work together now if either of us is to survive this transformation."
The girl's eyes widened further at his words, and she seemed on the verge of protest. Shariin raised his hand to silence her gently, maintaining their quiet, intense exchange. "I know that this must all seem overwhelming right now," he said soothingly, "but I beg you to trust me in this matter." He paused once more before adding firmly: "For both our sakes."
"The bond is physical and magical," he explained, watching her carefully to gauge her reaction. "You will now feel my emotions as if they were your own... and yours will affect me similarly." He paused again, pondering whether or not to reveal more. "Our minds are also linked; you can see through my eyes and hear through my ears, just as I can with yours." The girl looked stunned by this revelation, and Shariin couldn't help but feel a twinge of satisfaction at her obvious shock. He continued carefully, unsure how much more she could handle at once. "When my powers awaken... there will be times when your presence is necessary for me to remain in control."
Her eyes grew wide with fear as he spoke these words, and Shariin felt a stirring of anger within him. He forced himself to calm down, reminding himself that patience was key here. "But,"
"you must understand that if you do not cooperate during those times, it could have disastrous consequences for both of us." He hesitated for a moment before adding softly, "For your own safety as well as mine." Her eyes darted around the room once more in thought before finally returning to meet his gaze steadily. There was fear there, but also curiosity...and perhaps even trust beginning to bloom. It was a delicate balance, and Shariin knew that he must tread carefully from here on out.
Shariin raised an eyebrow at her question, surprised that she would even consider asking it. "I didn't choose this fate," he said simply, his voice lacking any emotion. "And even if I had, it wouldn't matter; my family has always been disdainful of emotions such as love and affection. To them, only strength and power are important." He paused for a moment before continuing softly, "As for why I didn't simply choose someone close to me...it was because I am not accustomed to having people near."
There was an awkward silence that followed his words. The girl seemed uncertain how to react, clearly understanding the implications of what he had just said but still unable to fully comprehend their situation. Shariin could feel her confusion and fear seething beneath the surface, and he knew that he must try harder to help her understand if they were ever going to make
Shariin considered her question carefully before responding. "I suppose that's one way to put it," he said slowly, his expression unreadable. "My family was always... distant. They viewed love and affection as weaknesses rather than strengths." He paused for a moment, wondering if perhaps he should have chosen another approach in explaining himself. "In my world, those who are weak-willed and unable to control their emotions are often seen as less valuable than those who can master themselves."
Shariin raised an eyebrow at her words, amusement tugging at the corners of his lips despite himself. "I did not 'decide' to bind myself with a random person," he pointed out, sounding exasperated. "You were chosen for your unique qualities; innocence and lack of malice that would balance my own dark powers. It was purely a strategic decision on my part." He hesitated for a moment before adding more softly, "But I admit that I never expected to find someone so... different from what I am used to in you. And perhaps, given time..." His voice trailed off, leaving the thought unfinished as he studied her face once more.
Shariin smiled at her comment, feeling a warmth spread through him despite himself. "Perhaps not saintly," he allowed with a hint of humor, "but you are certainly different from what I am used to." He paused for a moment, considering his words carefully before continuing, "And in some ways... that may be precisely what is needed to help me become the person I was meant to be." His expression turned solemn as he held her gaze. "You are my other half, Rina, and together we shall find our way through this darkness."
