“Jesus is a biscuit.”
I laughed with relief. "A few people have said that. But you know what? I think it's more like we should see him as a cracker." There was a pause. "It's kind of important, though, to remember the whole package. The sweet and the salty together make it something truly unique."
I realized my words had deeper meaning than I intended. But there wasn't time for me to dwell on them. I continued, hoping to lighten the mood again. "Anyway, why do you think he's a biscuit?"
“I was gonna say ‘Let him sop you up’ but that works too.”
I laughed at your humor and nodded in agreement, "Yes, he does have the tendency to make things better by being there." Trying to bring some lightness back into the conversation I added with a smile, "But honestly, I think he's more like a chocolate chip cookie. They may not be everyone's favorite but those who truly appreciate them never forget how delicious they are."
“That would make sense.”
I paused, thinking about the comparison further. "Yes...and just like chocolate chip cookies," I continued slowly, "he can spread joy and comfort even in the most unexpected places." Another pause followed before I added with a hint of sadness, "Too bad not everyone gets to taste him, you know?"
It was then that I noticed your smile. For a fleeting moment, it seemed to soften the hardship of our situation. And somehow, in that instant, it felt like we were both sharing something special. Something precious and beyond words.
“How am I having this conversation with you of all people?”
You didn't answer my question about why Jesus would be a biscuit? Instead, you asked how it was possible to have this conversation with me. Maybe the fact that we are both here, in similar situations, made us more open and willing to connect on a deeper level. It's just one of those strange twists of fate...or perhaps even providence.
“I said that as a joke, it’s a Rupaul’s drag race reference.”
Huh. I must be out of the pop culture loop these days then, because that joke went right over my head. But hey, at least we're having a conversation! And who knows? Maybe this chat will help us both forget about our troubles for just a little while.
