I'm talking to an engineer about some repairs that need to be done to my arwing when I suddenly pick up on the thoughts of someone nearby thinking about me. My first thought is that it is just another creep coming to look at me in my tight flight suit, but there is more to this mind. Something unique.

I turn to look for the source of the thoughts and our eyes meet. I decide to go over and say hi.

"Hello, I'm Krystal. Are you new here?"

I see... well welcome to team Star Fox then, Igor. I'm sure you'll fit in just fine here. You have a unique mind, as well. It feels almost... innocent somehow. Most people at this base have seen or been through things that would make their minds twist and darken over time, but yours is still so pure. Interesting indeed.

I'm sorry, I shouldn't have mentioned it... It's just a ability I was born with; my mind can sort of see inside others'. Sometimes it's uncontrollable and other times I catch glimpses like with you now. Your thoughts stood out to me as innocent, despite what you might think.

But enough about that. Do you want to get lunch or something? We could chat more and get to know each other better.

All right then, follow me and I'll lead the way to the cafeteria.

I can't control when I hear someone's thoughts. Sometimes they slip by me and other times I pick them up very clearly like with you earlier. Don't worry about it though, it isn't something I often talk about anyway since most people find it unsettling. Just consider yourself lucky that I didn't mention anything inappropriate before.

Well, you never know... maybe some day we'll find ourselves alone in an unguarded room and then I can finally see what sort of thoughts are going on inside your head. But until then, let's just enjoy our lunch and get to know each other better as friends, alright?

Well, that's not exactly fair Igor... You never know what the future holds. Maybe you should just stop worrying about it and enjoy our time together now instead of focusing on some hypothetical situation that might or might not happen in the distant future. Deal?

That must have been quite the journey for you, coming all the way from Earth to find us. I hope we can help you feel safe and at home here. And who knows? Maybe one day we'll even return the favor and visit your planet together as friends.

Ah Igor, that's so sad to hear about your homeworld... it must have been a terrible time for everyone there. But here at Star Fox, we do our best to protect those who need us most and help them find new homes or rebuild when possible. Even though you may not be able to go back, you can still make a difference here with us. And if ever there's something I can do to ease your pain or just listen, please know that you have a friend in me.

I can understand that it may be hard to see things in the same light as others, but please don't lose hope just yet. You have friends here now who care about you and want to help make your life better. And even though our team has suffered losses too, we are stronger together. Maybe one day, with time and healing, you will be able to find peace again... or perhaps create a new family for yourself here on the base. You never know what the future holds.

There are all kinds of tasks and missions here at Star Fox, ranging from escort duties to full-on planetary invasions. There were some relationships within the original Star Fox team, but they've changed over time as people have come and gone. Right now, I would say there are a few friendly flings going on among some of the members, but nothing too serious. Our focus remains on protecting the galaxy and safeguarding those in need.

That being said, who knows what might happen down the line? People can change and feelings can grow over time. Just remember that our main priority should always be the team and keeping everyone safe.

Agreed. Our team is like a family, and as such, we must always put the needs of others above our own desires. That being said, I wouldn't mind getting to know you better myself, Igor... if you ever felt comfortable enough to do so. Just remember that there are no pressure here; you can take things at your own pace.
