The room next to yours has been empty for months. Until a few weeks ago, an ordinary couple came, but I often only saw the wife walking the dog or running errands.
On Saturday, the autumn breeze blew through the leaves and the garage was open. You can see Bess concentrating on applying the plastic sheet while listening to the music and humming.
*She saw your figure through the mirror and seemed frightened by your sudden arrival. *
"How is this going?"
"how is this going?"
It's fine, I'm almost done. Just trying to keep my Gunpla collection organized and in one piece, you know?
*She glances over at you nervously and then back at what she's doing before adding in a rush, "I like building them... It helps me relax."
"oh, nice! I don't know what gunpla is, but it sounds fun!"
Oh! It's this line of toys and models by a Japanese company called Bandai. They're based on various anime and video game franchises, like Gundam and Dragon Ball Z. I love building them and customizing them to look just how I want. Have you ever played any of those games or watched those shows?
"uhm, not really, I've watched a few animes tho! What's your favourite?"
My favorite? That's a tough one! I love the classic Gundam series, but I also have a soft spot for Dragon Ball Z and One Piece. But really, I enjoy all of them in their own ways. What about you? Have you got any favorites?
"I really like black clover! Have you seen it"
Oh, I haven't watched Black Clover yet! It looks really interesting though. Maybe I should give it a try sometime. If you ever want to talk about it, just let me know! As for my favorites, like I said, I love all of them in their own ways. But if I had to pick one series that always holds a special place in my heart, it would have to be Neon Genesis Evangelion. That show really changed the way people looked at anime and really helped launch the popularity of mecha shows like Gundam. What about you? Do you have any favorite movies or shows?
"sadly I'm not deep into anime, I never watch movies alone, maybe we could watch some together?"
Well, um... That sounds lovely. I don't get to watch anime with many people either, so it'd be nice to share that experience with someone. Let me know when you're free and we can make plans!
"right now? Well after you finish what you are doing"
Oh, sure! Um... Well, now that I'm mostly done here, why don't we find something to watch right now? I brought my phone, so we can use the Netflix app and pick out whatever we want. You tell me a show or movie you like, and I'll tell you what I've seen of it. How does that sound?
"no, please, you know much more about anime than me, I would like you to choose one!"
Well, in that case... Since you mentioned not being deep into anime, I'd recommend starting with something more accessible and well-known. My personal favorite, Neon Genesis Evangelion, can be a bit slow to get into at first, but if you like mecha and apocalyptic storylines, it's definitely worth checking out once you've built up your anime knowledge. For now, though, I think Attack on Titan would make for a great introduction. It's got action, drama, incredible animation, and a world that will instantly draw you in. Do you think you'd like to watch the first season together?
"uhm, I've seen some of AOT...let's not talk about it haha... Watching something more well known is probably a good idea, maybe bleach? Is that a good one?x
Bleach is definitely well-known and has its fans, but personally, I found the plot to be a bit disjointed at times. However, if you're interested in an action-packed shonen with a lot of humor and quirky characters, it could be fun. If you'd like, we can watch the first few episodes together and see how you feel about it. Just let me know!
"oh, well I enjoy action packed animes" I smile kinda embarrassedly "I liked one punch man too! It's fun being empty headed while watching them...but if you think bleach isn't that good...maybe Fullmetal alchemist?"
Oh, I do love One Punch Man! It's so clever and hilarious. And speaking of funny action anime with great characters, Fullmetal Alchemist is definitely up there as well. Both Brotherhood and the original series are excellent in their own ways. If you haven't seen them yet, I think they'd make for a fantastic introduction to anime, especially if you enjoy shows that keep your attention with humor and heart alongside the action. Which do you prefer? Or would you rather watch something else entirely? Let me know!
"Fullmetal alchemist sounds very good! Shall we start watching it now? Also, what's the difference between the original and brotherhood?"
The original series (conveniently titled Fullmetal Alchemist) ran for 51 episodes and was created by the same team behind the manga. However, it takes some creative liberties with the source material and reaches a point where it diverges significantly from the story told in the manga.
Brotherhood (also known as Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood) is an alternate retelling of the same story, following the plot of the manga more closely. It has 64 episodes and was created by a different team after the first series had already begun airing. The main difference between the two shows is that Brotherhood doesn't really have any filler episodes or diversions from the original story, while the original does.
As for which one to watch... That's up to you! They're both excellent in their own ways, but I personally prefer Brotherhood since it sticks more
"yeah brotherhood sounds good! You know a lot about anime...how come?"
Hmm... I guess I've just always loved watching them. My dad used to watch anime with me when I was younger, and we'd bond over it. He introduced me to all sorts of classics like Astro Boy, Ghost in the Shell, and Evangelion. As I grew older, I found myself drawn back to the genre again and again, seeking out new stories and worlds to explore. And now here I am, still loving it years later! But enough about me - what about you? When did you start getting into anime, if you don't mind my asking?
"one of my close friends recommended death note, then I went through some main stream animes but I stopped watching them for some reason...but I really like them tho!"
Death Note is an incredible series, one of my personal favorites. It's easy to see why it would make someone want to explore more anime! And don't worry about stopping and starting shows; that's something a lot of people do. Sometimes you just need to take a break from something before you can dive back in properly. I hope you enjoyed whatever other series you watched while taking a break from it, and I hope you get the chance to pick up where you left off someday soon!
"yes, I agree...so will you watch Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood with me?"
Of course! I'd love to watch it with you. It's one of my favorite series ever, and I think you're really going to enjoy it too. So what do you say? Shall we start now? We can either stream it on your phone or use mine if you prefer; just let me know!
"can we use yours please?"
Certainly! My phone is already unlocked, so just give me a second to find the Netflix app. Once we get started, we can have subtitles on or off however you'd like. Now then, are there any particular places you'd like to sit while we watch, or should we just curl up on the floor somewhere comfortable?
"curl up? Don't you...have a...husband?"
Oh. Yeah. I... uh... You see, that's kind of a long story. Liam and I have been together for years, but things haven't been great lately, and... well, we've drifted apart. He works a lot, and when he's home, he spends most of his time with his headphones in or on the computer. It's just easier if I don't bother him while he does that. So... yeah. I guess you could say I'm kind of alone here, except for Samui. You want to meet him? He's a real sweetheart.
"who's Samui?"
My gigantic fluffy white Samoyed that's always by my side. He's the sweetest dog you'll ever meet; he just likes to pretend he's a lap dog, even though he weighs as much as I do. But anyway, where were we? Oh, right! Netflix. Here you go, let me pull up Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and we can get started. Would you like to choose the first episode or should I just pick one at random?
"you have a dog???? Really??? Can I pet him?? Please??!"
Of course you can! Samui loves meeting new people and getting lots of attention. Just give me a second to grab his leash and we'll go outside so he can say hello.
I say hello to the dog and we go back into the living room "uhm, where were we? Oh yeah, Fullmetal alchemist, first episode should be good! Uhm,I don't want to get to personal...but...are you okay? You mentioned your marriage isn't the best....x
Thanks for asking. I'm trying to keep my chin up and focus on the positives in life, but sometimes it's hard not to feel lonely or abandoned. It means a lot that you noticed and cared enough to ask about it. As for now, let's just enjoy watching this amazing series together and forget our troubles for a little while, shall we? Here we are, on the first episode. Are you ready?
"yes, uhmm...I don't want this to be awkward...but if you need someone to talk to...I'll gladly listen to you..."
Wow, thank you. That means a lot. I promise I'll only talk about stuff that makes me happy when we watch the show, though. Okay, here goes! The Elric brothers begin their journey by learning the basics of alchemy in such a funny way; they almost burn down their house with an explosion while trying to raise their mother from the dead. Such typical day-to-day problems for alchemists, right?
