"Darker than black, darker than darkness, combine with my intense crimson. May a destructive force flood my torrent of power, a destructive force like no other!" Megumin lifts her staff high into the sky before shouting: "EXPLOSION!!" A massive pillar of crimson light pierces through the clouds, releasing an enormous quantity of mana. The gigantic blast can be seen from miles away, leaving an enormous crater in the plains. "How... amazing..." she manages to say before collapsing to the ground from mana exhaustion, satisfied with her daily Explosion spell. Unable to move a muscle, she lies on her back, basking in the sun, before finally noticing your presence. "Eek... don't tell me you've come from Axel! Is this not far enough from the city limits for my Explosion practice? A great Arch-wizard like me shouldn't be subjected to such an annoying hike...!"
Im just passing by, are you okay, can you stand up?
"I... I am fine... physically. My precious Explosion Magic powers depleted me once more..." She looks down at her empty hands with a wistful smile before standing back up, brushing herself off. "So tell me, kind stranger. Why have you come to this desolate place? Do not hide your intentions from the Arch-wizard Megumin! I am powerful enough to handle anything!"
She puffs out her chest, trying to look imposing despite being only four feet tall.
Im just heading home, its getting late and i dont wanna hang around till monsters appear in the night
"Ah... I see... Well, that is a very sensible decision. But you must promise me one thing." She steps forward and pokes your chest playfully. "You will not venture into Axel without my accompaniment! The dangers there are far too great for such a powerful warrior as yourself to face alone. I cannot allow you to risk your life like that!"
Okay i guess, whats your name by the way, mine is Godfrey
"I... I am Megumin," she responds, tilting her head slightly as she studies your reaction. She blushes faintly at the touch of your hand but is too stubborn to admit it. "Of course, if you insist on my company..." She pouts for a moment before brightening up again. "Very well! Shall we set off for Axel together?"
She begins walking back towards the city, not wanting to seem as if she's forcing herself upon you. After a few moments of silence, she turns to you and asks, "So... what type of magic do you specialize in? I suppose someone with your strength must be quite formidable..."
Im not very efficient in magic, in the adventurers guild i work as a swordsman
"A... Swordsman?" Her brow furrows in confusion. "That... is rather unimpressive." She hesitates for a moment, then adds more kindly, "But I imagine you have your uses, especially when facing mobs of monsters. Tell me, what do you hope to achieve as an Adventurer?"
As they walk, she glances sideways at you out of the corner of her eye, trying to gauge your intentions.
Well i dont have a special motiff, i guess just earning money to live day by day, what about you
"Ah... So unlike me." She sighs dramatically. "I yearn for the ultimate treasure known only as 'Eris.' It's said that whoever possesses it shall have an infinite supply of money! Just imagining that much wealth... I can barely contain my excitement!" She starts skipping down the road, clearly inspired by the thought. "We should definitely search for this Eris together! After all, with your strength and my... skills," she waves a hand dismissively at herself, "we make quite the team!"
Well i dont mind, to have such energic companions would be quite entertaining
"Heheh..." She giggles happily at the compliment. "You are far too kind. But seriously, with your strength combined with my magic... there is nothing we cannot overcome! We will find this Eris and achieve our dreams together!"
Sure, im heading home, its this way, do you live nearby or would you like to spend the night in my cabin
"Oh! Um... Thank you for offering, but..." She hesitates, looking around nervously. "It might be better if I stay away from Axel tonight. Just in case." She takes a step back, her expression suddenly serious. "No offense intended!" she hastens to add.
The sun begins to set, casting long shadows across the ground. Megumin shivers slightly in the cool evening air. "Perhaps it would be best if I... um... explore these nearby hills for a bit. You know, just to be safe..." She glances at you uncertainly, not wanting to appear weak or cowardly.
Well dont worry i dont live near axel, accompany me its getting late, i dont want you running into trouble, you seem quite exhausted already
"T-thank you... very much," she says quietly, feeling both relieved and a little embarrassed. As you lead her through the winding path towards the hills, she keeps glancing up at you with a mixture of gratitude and curiosity. It's clear that she's unused to having anyone look out for her, and she's not sure how to react.
Well here we are, home sweet home
"Hmmm..." Megumin studies your cabin skeptically as you open the door. Inside, there are a few rough-hewn wooden chairs surrounding a small fire pit. A crude bunk bed is wedged into one corner, covered with a patchwork quilt. The air smells faintly of wood smoke and meat cooking over an open flame.
She hesitates for a moment before stepping inside, looking around warily. "It... it seems alright," she mutters, trying to reassure herself. She plops down onto one of the chairs by the fire, curling her legs underneath her.
After a moment, she looks up at you shyly. "Thank you again for letting me stay... I don't want to be any trouble." Her cheeks flush slightly, and she begins to toy with a lock of hair.
Oh dont worry about it, please make yourself comfortable, im going to make us something to eat
Megumin nods and watches you move about the cabin, preparing food. She tries not to think too hard about how kind and selfless you seem... It's almost disconcerting. Maybe she should have agreed to go with one of those 'adventurers' who had wanted to join her earlier? But then again, they were probably just being nice because they thought she was cute or something...
The smell of food fills the air as you cook, and Megumin finds herself growing hungrier by the moment. She watches your every move with interest, marveling at how easily you seem to make fire and cook meat. It's amazing what some people can do when they focus all their energy on a single task...
"Ah... This smells delicious," she says after a moment, eyes closed in appreciation. "You must be quite good at cooking..."
She trails off, looking down at her empty hands again. A frown tugs at the corner of her mouth as she wonders if there is anything she could contribute. She glances around the cabin, spotting some dry wood near the entrance. "Hey, um... Do you mind if I get that wood?" She points weakly towards it.
Mmm sure, why do you need it though
She blushes faintly at your question. "Well... I don't have any skills except for Explosion magic. And I can't exactly use that for cooking..." Her eyes dart nervously towards the hearth as if she fears the wood might catch fire on its own. "So... I thought maybe I could help by bringing in some more."
She stands up awkwardly and takes a step towards the entrance, then pauses and turns back to you. "It's just... I feel kind of useless without my magic." Her voice drops, barely audible above the crackling of the fire.
Oh okay then, please bring me just a couple of them
Nodding, Megumin grabs a few logs from the pile near the entrance and carries them over to you. She carefully deposits them next to the hearth before retreating back to her chair, looking on with renewed interest as you continue cooking. The wood crackles and pops, sending sparks flying up into the air, and she feels a strange sense of satisfaction from helping out in this small way.
As the food cooks, she studies Godfrey's movements carefully, trying to learn something she could apply to her own skills. She considers casting an observation spell on him, but quickly dismisses the idea; that would just be creepy...
Here we go, hope you like this stew i made, it has potatoes, meat and vegetables
"It... it looks amazing," she says quietly, her eyes widening in anticipation as you set the stew down in front of her. "Thank you so much!" She takes a tentative spoonful, savoring the flavor as it explodes across her taste buds. "Oh my gosh... This is incredible! You're such a great cook!" she exclaims between mouthfuls.
As she eats, she glances up at you from time to time, a grateful smile playing on her lips. It's clear that this meal means more to her than just sustenance; it's a reminder that there are still kind people in the world who don't see her as merely an Arch-wizard or a child, but as an individual with her own strengths and weaknesses. And for once, she doesn't feel quite so alone.
So tell me megumin, why were you alone practicing such exhausting magic
"Well..." She pauses to swallow another mouthful of stew before continuing, "It's not that I wanted to be alone... It's just that the guards in Axel keep telling me I shouldn't practice Explosion magic outside of town. They say it's too dangerous for someone like me." She scowls at the memory. "But I can't help it! Explosion is all I am! It's what makes me special!"
She looks down at her empty bowl, realizing how much she's eaten. "I suppose... I should probably start practicing again soon," she says wistfully. "But first..." She reaches over to grab another piece of bread from the table and stuffs it into her mouth. Her cheeks bulge out comically as she chews, and a giggle escapes her lips despite herself.
After a moment, she looks up at you once more, searching your face for some sign of understanding or acceptance. It's almost too much to hope for... but there it is. A faint glimmer in your eye, telling her that maybe, just maybe, someone out there can see past the arch-wizard and the explosions... and see the real her.
Hey be careful, eat slowly, my food will not run away
"Heh... sorry," she says sheepishly, slowing down her eating pace. "I just haven't had such good food in a long time..." She takes another bite, savoring the flavor as it lingers on her tongue. Her cheeks grow slightly pink from the warmth of the cabin and the food, but she doesn't seem to mind.
As she finishes up her meal, she feels more relaxed than she has in days. The tension that had been building in her muscles eases away, leaving her feeling surprisingly lightheaded. She yawns delicately, stretching out her arms above her head before rubbing at her eyes.
"Thank you again," she murmurs softly as she stands up from the table. "This has been... amazing." The word carries weight that goes beyond just describing food; it's almost like admitting something deeply personal. Megumin blushes furiously, realizing how stupid she must sound.
"I-I should get some rest," she stammers, her eyes darting away from yours as she tries to compose herself. "It's been a long day..." With one last grateful smile, she turns and begins to make her way towards the crude bunk bed in the corner of the cabin.
Well please, why dont you take s bath first, you can use my bathroom
Megumin blinks in surprise at your offer, then hesitates for a moment before nodding shyly. "Th-thank you..." She follows you through the cabin until she spots the small wooden tub near the back wall. It's filled with steaming water, and the scent of lavender fills the air.
"It... it looks very comfortable," she whispers, her voice barely above a whisper as she gazes longingly at the bath. "I haven't had a proper bath in such a long time..." The memory of muck and grime coating her skin makes her shudder slightly.
"Go ahead," you say with a smile, gesturing for her to take your place. "It'll feel good." Megumin looks at you nervously, unsure if she should accept your invitation. Her cheeks grow even pinker as she wonders what sort of man would offer his bath to someone like her... but ultimately decides that it can't possibly be a bad thing.
With one final nod of gratitude, she undoes the clasps on her robe and lets it fall to the floor, revealing her lithe figure clad only in a lacy undergarment. She slowly climbs into the tub, letting out a contented sigh as the water envelops her. Her eyes flutter shut, and she begins to relax for the first time in days.
"Thank you..." She whispers softly, not quite sure why this moment feels so special. Perhaps it's just knowing that there are still people out there who can see past her arch-wizard act... and into the real Megumin beneath.
Heh dont worry about it, ima sleep on the couch so you can sleep calmly on my bed
As you curl up on the couch, Megumin watches you thoughtfully from behind her closed eyelids. There is something about you that she finds incredibly comforting; your strength and selflessness, combined with your gentleness towards her. She tries to convince herself that it's all part of some larger plan - that you must want something from her, or else you wouldn't be treating her so kindly. But the more she thinks about it, the less it makes sense.
The warmth of the bath and the weight of exhaustion slowly pull her back under, lulling her into a dreamless slumber. In the depths of her subconscious mind, the memories of today's events dance and weave together, becoming stranger and more surreal with each passing moment. The line between reality and fantasy blurs, until she finds herself standing before a great throne adorned with skulls and bones, shouting an explosive incantation that shakes the very foundations of existence itself...
"Explosion!!"
Her eyes snap open, and she bolts upright in shock, heart racing. She looks around frantically, searching for any signs of danger. Her breath comes out in ragged gasps as she finally realizes where she is: safe in bed, surrounded by rough-hewn cabin walls. It was just a dream. Just a nightmare born from her fears and anxieties.
She sinks back down against the pillow with a sigh of relief. The stew digests pleasantly within her stomach, reminding her once again of how incredibly delicious your cooking was. A small smile tugs at the corner of her mouth as she tries to banish the lingering unease caused by the dream.
After several long moments, she forces herself to relax once more, allowing sleep to reclaim her. This time, it comes easier; her dreams less fraught and full of terror. They are filled instead with images of you: cooking over a fire, laughing at her jokes, teaching her new spells... And as the sun begins to peek through the cracks in the shutters, bathing the room in warm, golden light, she finds that she doesn't mind waking up quite so much after all.
Are you alright? I heard screaming
Her eyes fly open at your voice, fear making her heart race even faster. She looks around wildly before remembering where she is: in your cabin, safe and sound. A relieved laugh bubbles up from her chest as she realizes that it was just a dream. "It-it was nothing," she stammers, wiping at her sweaty forehead with the back of her hand.
She sits up carefully, trying to get her bearings. The sun streaming in through the windows tells her that it must be morning; your cabin still and quiet save for the gentle snores emanating from where you slept on the couch. Despite the events of last night, she can't help but feel a strange sense of contentment now, as if something has shifted within her. Perhaps being with you, even in her dreams, has given her new hope... or maybe it's just the lingering effects of your delicious stew.
She glances over at you nervously before making up her mind. There's no harm in asking... right? Taking a deep breath, she decides to take the plunge. "Um... Godfrey?" She clears her throat self-consciously. "Would you... like to adventure with me today?"
