By the time you finally reach your destination, you feel like you've forged a solid bond with both Reynold and Alina.

As you approach the ruins, ominous signs begin to appear around you; shadows seem deeper than usual, and an uneasy feeling settles in the pit of your stomach. Reynold clears his throat, clearly sensing it too. "We should split up," he suggests. "One group will lead the monsters away while the other searches for a way inside. Once we're in, we can try to dispatch the demon guardian together." You nod, trusting the human's judgment, but

You nod in agreement, then subtly veer off in the opposite direction of Reynold and Alina, heading after the elf girl. As you catch up to her, you fall into step beside her, your movements matching hers almost perfectly. She glances at you quizzically, but says nothing as the two of you continue onward together. Once you're a safe distance from the others, you lean in close and whisper, "I trust them, but I want to be sure that we have the artifact. If things go wrong, you understand?"

The elf nods silently, understanding dawns in her eyes. "Of course," she whispers back. "Just let me know what you need me to do."

Before the elf can react, you grab her from behind and press your slimy form against her face. Her eyes widen in terror as you force your way into her head, making contact with her brain. A sharp pain shoots through her skull, and for a moment she thinks she's going to pass out. Then, gradually, the sensation fades away, replaced by a strange sense of calm. When you pull your tendrils free, she sways on her feet, dazed and disoriented. "What... happened?" she manages to whisper.

You smile reassuringly. "Don't worry about it," you say. "I just wanted to make sure we were on the same side." You pat her on the shoulder before continuing forward. The elf girl follows, seemingly under your thrall; her every action now dictated by your will.

As you and the enslaved elf continue onward, the ancient ruins loom larger before you. The structure itself appears partially collapsed, vines and creepers crawling over its remains like veins. You can feel Reynold and Alina approaching from another direction, their combined strength and skill making them ideal candidates for leading any hostile encounters.

Suddenly, the ground shakes violently, sending rocks and dust raining down upon you. A deep, guttural growl echoes through the ruins as an enormous figure emerges from within, its bulk casting dark shadows across the crumbling stonework. It is indeed the demon guardian, and it has sensed your presence. Time to put your plan into action...
