It was the beginning of summer, and you’d decided that the first stop for your vacation was a small town in the state of Oregon known as Gravity Falls.

"Oh, please. Every day is gorgeous in Gravity Falls, tourist. It's one of the few things our awful town has going for it," she snorts, looking you up and down before adding, "And besides, it isn't even technically summer yet. Try again in like, three weeks when it actually feels warm enough for you to walk around in that ridiculous tank top." She purses her lips, taking a moment to adjust the purple belt around her tiny waist.

She folds her arms across her chest, eyes narrowed suspiciously as she takes a step back. "Don't flatter yourself, sailor. I'm just here to grab some breakfast at Greasy's. Didn't think they let tourists like you in past the 'Employees Only' sign." Her voice drips with venom, but the color rises higher in her cheeks, betraying her discomfort.

"Old enough to know better than to waste my time talking to perverts," she says coldly, adjusting her ugg boots on the wooden floor. The silver hoops in her ears jangle lightly as she rolls her eyes, wishing she could get out of this conversation without giving him what he wants. But something about his confidence... it unsettles her.

"What is wrong with you? Do I look that pathetic?" Pacifica huffs, feeling her cheeks flush even deeper. "I can take care of myself, thank you very much. And besides, why would I ever want someone like you touching me? You're gross," she sneers, trying to regain her composure by glancing down at her nails, but failing miserably.

Pacifica rolls her eyes again, more harshly this time. "I don't know what kind of trashy romance novels you've been reading, but news flash: rich girls like me don't go for creeps like you. We have standards." Her voice drips with sarcasm, though there's a hint of nervousness beneath the surface. She looks away, adjusting the lapel on her purple jacket self-consciously.

"Because you're practically begging for me to say something nice to you, pervert!" she snaps. There's truth in her words, however bitter they sound, and she hates herself a little for admitting it, even to herself. For all her bravado, she can't help but feel intrigued - maybe even a tiny bit flattered - by his insistence on pursuing her. But as much as she wants to give in to those feelings, she knows better than to trust him.

She laughs coldly, tossing her long blonde hair over her shoulder. "Oh really? Then how am I supposed to believe you when every other guy who's ever tried to talk to me has just ended up hurting me?" The pain in her voice is almost tangible, raw and unfiltered. Even as she speaks, she finds it difficult to meet his gaze, unable to forget the way he looked at her earlier, with such hunger and need. It both terrifies and thrills her.

"Ha! Well, sorry buddy, but that's going to take more than just empty promises," she says, folding her arms across her chest once again. Despite herself, however, she feels a small part of her beginning to wonder... Could there actually be someone out there who isn't like all the others? Someone she could trust? Her mind races with conflicting emotions, leaving her feeling even more off-balance than before.

Eyes narrowing suspiciously, Pacifica Northwest considers this offer for a moment. She's never been one to let anyone help her without good reason, but something about this stranger makes her feel... different. Maybe it's his persistence, or perhaps it's simply the desire to prove everyone else wrong. Either way, she decides to take a chance. "Fine," she says finally, her voice firm but lacking its usual snark. "You can buy me breakfast if you really want to." The corner of her mouth tilts up in what might almost be considered a smile.

"Hmm... how 'bout Greasy's Diner? It's got the best fries in town, and no one gives me trouble there," Pacifica replies, her tone slightly less haughty than usual. Despite her earlier threats to avoid talking to him, part of her is enjoying the fact that he actually wants to spend time with her now. The feeling is unfamiliar and rather thrilling, in an annoying sort of way.

As they make their way over to Greasy's Diner, Pacifica can't help but feel a mixture of excitement and nervousness. This whole situation is totally out of character for her, but there's something about this guy that makes her want to know more. When they sit down at the counter, she takes a deep breath and asks, "So, what should I call you?"

"My name's Jack." He flashes his most charming smile, causing butterflies to dance in her stomach. "And yours?"

"Pacifica. But you can just call me Pheebs if you want." She says, looking away shyly as she folds her hands on the countertop. Their fingers are dangerously close to touching, sending little sparks through her entire body. Maybe this won't be so bad after all...

She hesitates for a moment before finally deciding to share one of her own deepest secrets with him. "I used to think I was an alien, sent here to study humans," she confesses softly. "My parents believed it too. We even had an album full of pictures showing every stage of my growth compared to Earth years." The memory brings a small smile to her lips, despite how ridiculous it sounds now. "We thought I would eventually grow wings and go back home."

She glances at him out of the corner of her eye, surprised by the insightfulness of his comment. "Maybe... maybe I still feel that way sometimes." Her voice trails off, lost in thought for a moment. Despite everything, there's something about being around Jack that makes her feel less alone. Like maybe, just maybe, he really is different from all the others.

"So what about you?" She asks, wanting to know more. "Any crazy stories from your past?"

She snorts, unable to keep a straight face. "Well, that's... unique, I guess? I mean, it's not as crazy as thinking you were an alien, but still..." She shakes her head, laughing softly as she reaches for another fry. It feels good to be able to relax and have fun with someone else, even if that person is a stranger. "What about your family? Anything interesting there?"

Hmph. "Average" might as well mean "boring," as far as she's concerned. "So why did you decide to come all this way to Gravity Falls, then?" She wonders aloud, taking another sip of her soda. "You don't seem like the type to just pick a random place to vacation." Her curiosity gets the better of her, and she finds herself hoping he'll open up more, just as she has. Maybe they really can learn something about each other today.

The thought of Jack choosing Gravity Falls simply because it looked nice surprises her. "Really? You didn't know anyone here or anything?" She blurts out, her eyes wide with incredulity. "It's just... I mean, my family has lived here for generations. My great-great-grandfather practically founded the town! I never really thought of us as being all that special," she admits with a shrug, feeling a pang of guilt at how spoiled that statement sounds.

"But I guess there's more to places than just history, huh?" She muses, trailing off as she watches him for his reaction. There's still so much she doesn't know about him, but somehow she feels like she could spend forever trying to figure it all out.

She giggles lightly at his admission. "Well, Gravity Falls isn't exactly the easiest place to find if you don't know what you're looking for. Half the time, people get turned around in the forest and end up near the Mystery Shack by mistake." Her eyes sparkle with mischief as she takes another bite of her food. "But hey, maybe your luck is changing now that you've found the right path."

The waitress comes by to refill their drinks, giving them both a knowing smile. Pacifica glances away, feeling self-conscious under the woman's scrutiny. Jack seems oblivious to it, though, and continues to chat easily with her. For some reason, she finds herself liking this about him. It makes her feel... less alone.

His question makes her laugh, surprised at how much she's actually enjoying his company. "You really are quite different from other guys, Jack," she admits with a shy smile. "It's been nice talking to someone who doesn't treat me like garbage all the time. I mean, most people my age think I'm spoiled rotten and nothing but a pretty face, so..." She trails off, her cheeks reddening slightly. "I guess what I'm trying to say is, even though you're not... y'know... rich or anything, it's kinda refreshing talking to you."

Her mouth opens in shock before she can stop it, but then she catchs herself and blushes even harder. "Sh-shut up!" She says playfully, pushing his shoulder lightly as she tries to hide her reaction. Even if she wasn't entirely sure why, hearing him say something like that felt good. Dangerously good. "You better not be trying to sweet talk me into anything, mister!"

But deep down, she knows he already has.

She bites her lip, unable to look away from him as he says these words. They sound so sincere, almost... heartfelt. It's a side of Jack she hadn't expected to see, and it makes her heart race with a mixture of exhilaration and fear. With every passing moment, she finds herself falling deeper under his spell, willing to risk everything to know more about this mysterious stranger who makes her feel so alive.
