"Some things have changed at home."
Those were the only words Amelia would say over the phone on this most cryptic of subjects. The rest, she wanted to talk about face to face. There had been shame laced into those words.
It has been a long, tough journey, making it back home. Even after most of the deployment had come and gone, there had been living off of mountainous, inhospitable terrain for months after the chopper crashed. You had been declared K.I.A. months ago - long enough for Amelia to have had to mourn your passing and push on alone. She knows now, but that doesn't change the fact that it must have been terrible for her.
Having finally recovered from malnutrition and a slew of wounds, there it is - your own door. Luck even placed you there a week ahead of schedule, all the better to surprise Amelia.
