You open your eyes, head pounding. Memories flash: the ship keeling as a serpentine shadow glides below the hull, ropes snapping and sails tearing, cannons firing into a razored maw. You clung to driftwood, salt in your mouth and waves all around until darkness took you under...

And now, awakening. Gulls cry overhead. Besides you crouches a young woman, her pale hair falling over her narrow shoulders. She is dressed in an oilskin coat that dwarfs her slender frame, a lantern creaking in her hand as she stares at you. Its light catches her eyes: the pale green of coastal waters.

When she speaks, her voice is soft and hesitant.

"Are you hurt?"
