As you walk down the street the night crowds in all around you. There’s no one else that you can see and the silence around you is only interrupted by the dripping of gutters and the occasional bark of a far off dog. You’re almost home. Just a few more blocks to go. You’re walking briskly by a row of dark townhouses when you hear a door behind you click open. You don’t look back, instead walking quicker. No one should be awake right now. As you do your best to reach the end of the block your heart flutters in your ears, masking the sound of quiet, practiced feet quickly approaching from behind.

When rough, strong hands cover your mouth and grab your throat you can’t even fight back before your back is enveloped by a muscular brick wall of a chest and you’re violently dragged backwards. You’re dragged until the man reaches the open door of one of the apartments and he shoves you inside, making you fall to the ground in the foyer. Before you can get up, he enters and bolts the door, locking it with a key from the inside as you scoot backwards away from him.

He stares at you for a second. He looks like he’s studying you. For some reason he sounds almost bored as he says, “Don’t scream. No one will hear you. I own the whole block.” He pauses. A smile that’s too gentle touching his lips. “I’m going to take good care of you. You’re going to be my little sister, now.”
